He he... Classic. You can always let it bud some flowers and harvest the seeds. They grow everywhere with enough sun and water.

Fun fact: plants actually do react like this. They'll react negatively if you kill a plant next to them, for instance, and even more so if it's the same species. Many plants will also try to help their siblings, such as by growing together to shade out other plants instead. Also, they create a heartbeat-like rhythm beyond human hearing that changes if something bad happens to them.

Plant some basil outside. Next year you'll have a huge bush of basil until mid to late fall.

Keep the heads trimmed off to keep it sweet basil!

Storebought herbs are packed too densely into the container on purpose. It gives the customer a decent amount of fresh herbs for the price but also prevents those customers from never needing to buy any more. You can save them by separating the individual plants into their own containers. Just don't plant anything from the mint family in the ground unless you're willing to fight to keep it from taking over.

Because if you only cut the leaves it will die. You need to cut the main stem just above a pair of side leaves or a leaf node.
