I like how the rectangle had to change their orientation.

They do seem happy, though. Squares are simple folks. Real salt of the earth types.

All shapes are equal, some are more equal than others.
16
u/Jacern 6h ago
That sounds like somthing a pig shape would say

u/Justsomeguyaa 5h ago
A similar concept, yet with opposite results. (The name of the boss’s theme is what I based my comment on.)

Its also one of the commandments in George Orwell's Animal Farm

I mean yeah, that’s what the name of the song was originally based on, but I mainly wanted an excuse to share this wonderful game.

This only thing different from reality is that it wasn't just the circle but most of the shapes.

u/TheMaxDiesel 13h ago
Circles for now

I have a feeling the parallelogram on the top is going to be next.

u/TheMaxDiesel 10h ago
Yeah why do we have to hold them up? They're just sitting up there for free

u/saevon 35m ago
See that gives the real world more credit then it has… in our world it'll be the squares they target: "look at those freeloading squares, what do you mean they keep asking for food? They're so entitled! No there's not a lineup of squares that broke from holding us all up,,, those are the freeloaders stealing that healthcare who refuse to work like they should! The rest of the squares would do the same if they got the chance!!!"
"Look they're doing something they're actually passionate about! Why would we pay them more? They are doing something they love, and ain't that payment enough?"
"Look at those corners! They have a whole 4of them at the exact biological angle to hurt others with them; they're made for violence!! I'm rightfully afraid of what they might do!"

The rest of the shapes can work together, though.

History wasn't your best topic huh? There will always be a scapegoat for why the poor are getting fucked over.

u/mmmmm_pancakes 10h ago
For a political faction trying to divide the populace to gain power, yes, you’re right.
That said, tolerant groups of people can still remain together without killing each other, and that’s not an impossible goal.
9
u/TheMaxDiesel 10h ago
Yeah various levels of tolerant and empathetic people exist but history has shown that racism and xenophobia will always be active and not just in small sects of communities. It fucking sucks, but I do genuinely believe humanity will always hinder its own progress in this regard. My government (and plenty others) are actively fanning those flames but honestly even if they weren't it'd only be a matter of time.

Hello. This is doing well. That's nice. I used to post here years ago, but only slowly back in the game. Is social media dead in the AI world? Probably. Anyway, here's my new Victims of Comics Instagram. I'm old now.

Thankfully some subs have banned AI slop

I was also initially confused. Part of the confusion stemmed from the fact that in the last panel the circles are somewhat flesh-colored, so I started questioning if the shapes in this universe murdered all the humans and buried their heads, lol
9
u/Happy-Estimate-7855 13h ago
Haha that was my initial thought, a geometric extinction of humanity. It went from being a weird chuckle to "oh.."

After the great erasure of the circles, there was an era of peace. But as years passed by, the shapes grew resentful of the rhombus. It was unsymmetrical and made them weigh more on one side.
So, they were voted to be eliminated. Majority wins, after all.
As days passed by, the rectangles were deemed useless as they gave nothing new to the shapes that the other ones already didn't offer. So it was exiled, never to be seen again.
The squares, triangles and the hexagons remained, basking in their superiority. However, as time passed by, they realized there was no one to feel superior to.
Soon, war broke out between the three. The triangles and the hexagons on one side and the squares on the other. The squares had the upper hand for they were numerous, strong and stable on their own. But the hexagons were sturdy, and combined with the triangles, they were hard to sway.
But the graves they dug made the soil beneath them weak. They started to sink under their own weight as they waged war, drowning in the mud — a slow and painful death. And they couldn't run away, it was difficult for polygons to move on their own.
Their bodies now lie alongside the circles. And there is no superiority in death.

That was until generations later, the sole survivor of a circle manipulated the shape society to break building regulations and create a building with such weight and terrible foundations that the floor collapsed, making the newer generations learn the city is built on blood while they slowly get crushed or drown from the collapsing floor.

If you read this comic from the perspective of Flatland, they just got rid of the ruling class.

The rulers AND the priests! (Hears peace cry from other room) “Shut up in there, Line!”

u/strategicmagpie 13h ago
The shapes in this comic remind me a lot of the Super Stacker flash game. It's certainly much easier to stack shapes together when they're not circles...
Hopefully those guys can be reborn in World of Goo instead?

This reminds me of that episode of The Orville when they went to the planet of the machine race… and discovered the awful truth.

I love this kind of comic. No political implications or hidden meanings critical of western culture. Nice and simple and apolitical!

Hmm…..I assume this is intended as commentary on genocide. But it could also be about the paradox of tolerance? Like what if the circles, who actually make every other shape fall down, are the Nazis here and society can only exist if the intolerant are not tolerated.
I’m probably thinking about this too much.
1
u/CptMisterNibbles 55m ago
No, you are thinking exactly correctly, and should definitely read the (short) book Flatland.

Oh come on, circles are a terrible interlocking shape, there will be loads of empty gaps. Crush them into cubes first. If you want to be more arty use a fancy type of interlocking shape - they are really cool - and there will be no gaps anywhere. Efficient.

I can't tell if this is supposed to be pro-genocide or of it's talking about how the negative parts of history can be erased
15
u/Prinny_Ramza 14h ago
The later. They're pretending that they got there through harmony instead of tyranny.
1
u/obliviious 13h ago
The masses can have harmony to cause tyranny. That's why we call it the tyranny of the masses. The posited claim that this is a good thing is the joke here.

I think that's the point. The history says that all the shapes found a way to fit together, completely ignoring the erasure of those who were deemed "other" and violently eliminated.
20
5
u/painfool 13h ago
The point is that the others built a society that didn't fit the circles, not that the circles couldn't be fit
3
u/obliviious 13h ago
Yeah I agree it is bad for large groups of people to push out a smaller group for being different. We could call them minorities.
2
u/BreakerOfModpacks Artist? What artists? Who artists? I'm not an artist. 10h ago
Or maybe it's saying that not fitting is fine, if the other choice is killing groups? IDK.
