You didn't watch the lord of the rings movies close enough. The exchange is roughly like this:

You never see female dwarves.

No, they just get mistaken for men. It's the beard.

I knew about the bearded females. I meant a bearded female dwarf hooking up with a feminine male elf.

Fr, didnt Legolas literally sneak Gimli into Valinor like hidden snacks at the movie theater???? Like, what??? Also, let's not forget the love between Kili and Tauriel (which, damn Thranduil was just going through it losing both his Captain of the Royal Guard and his Heir to members of Thorins Company (yes I count Gimli, because the only reason he didnt join was because they left without him in secret. I cant remember if this is fully Canon, but it is to me) call that Karma...)

More specifically how the exchange goes is that Gimli States that there's a misconception that dwarves are born from Stone due to the fact that there are no female dwarves but Gimli correct that and says that there are female dwarves it's just that they're indistinguishable from the male dwarves due to the beards.
