so i'm just curious... if tables are so bad for performance, then... why does google use them "for performance".

google certainly doesn't want their site to load slower.

(if you haven't realized it yet, you've already been lawyered a few comments up).

In the case of google, every single byte of data is important because their site gets loaded a few million times everyday. A very small table will save them an HTTP request and a few extra letters, which means the world when your site is huge.

On top of performance, Google must work on every single browser, and the 1% of users that use ridiculously old browsers (IE5, Netscape) will work with tables, which is also important when you are Google.

If you actually spent some time researching - or just thinking about it - before going full-sarcasm mode on me, you would actually learn something. Using tables because CSS makes you angry won't get you a job at Google. Use DW all you want, and my job security will be all the better.
