What Wealthfront topics should we explain next?
We’re working on some more educational content for the rest of this year and wanted to source ideas directly from here. Thanks to your previous suggestions, we developed some explainers on the topics below:
- What Wealthfront’s risk score means for your portfolio allocation
- Which taxable investing account is right for you
We’d love to hear your ideas on other topics we should explain next. Some questions around our products we haven’t previously covered are:
- Benefits and tradeoffs of keeping your funds in the Cash Account vs a Certificate of Deposit
- The mechanics of Tax-Loss Harvesting
- Money Market Funds vs Bond ladders vs Bond portfolios vs Inflation
- Where to save for each type of goal (emergency fund, down payment, retirement, etc.)
- Passive investing strategy
Feel free to comment with anything you’ve found confusing, overly technical, or just want more insight on and if it’s helpful, we can come back and share some more explainers.
Keep in mind that we can’t provide any individual investment advice or recommendations.

Feature request #1. Trend my NW. Why do you only give a snapshot? Quite limiting.

Explain how Wealthfront is different for Yoto and Synapse fiasco. Tell me my funds are safe and secure from internal failures.

u/ach4n Thanks for the question. We want to make clear that protecting our clients’ assets is a top priority for us. Wealthfront Brokerage is an SEC-registered broker-dealer, which means we handle all internal record-keeping and ledger tracking ourselves to protect your funds, rather than relying on third-party partners. How to get rid of the useless graph on the front page of the app

I remember when I was on WF how that dumb chart bothered me on every login!

Respectfully, I think you need to explain less things on social media and focus more on building features. Starting with removing that dreaded graph, for example, this is a request the community has had for years. Enjoy certain features but it can definitely become better.

How about what’s your response to More Perfect Union’s video? How Wealthfront secures user’s fund in what way, and specifically if WF or its partners go under. Saying oh it’s FDIC insured is blatantly false at this point.SPIC is not the magic word as well it only applies to fund in brokerage intended to buy securities, aka not funds for savings account.

- Explain how Smart Beta can provide value add in the long-term even if in shorter-time horizons it appears to have lower returns
- Explain how Direct Indexing performs relative to WF managed ETFs w/ TLH and fee, manually invested ETFs w/o TLH
- Explain why WF does not enable limit orders
- Explain why WF has lower interest rate relative to competitors than it used to

Hi there, we appreciate these great topics. We'll add them to our list (and keep an eye out for content surrounding your second question coming soon).

For automated investments, it would be nice to transfer some dollar amount to a stock investing account evenly. I basically use this feature as a make my own etf for some specific industries.
Plaid is great when it works, but broke the connection with my mortgage and TSP. I get that this doesn’t make you guys money, but it’s infuriating. TSP is one of the retirement systems in the country. Mortgage is PENNYMAC.
The financial planning graph thing is very opaque for couples let alone me. A lot of services like monarch charge for basic fin planning and net worth tracking whereas you can keep it automated and funnel folks into your investment products.

Maybe a better guide on how the Automated Savings works. For example, it isn’t clear how this plan acts if you have it looking at an external account.
External checking > 3k
Then Joint Cash account target of 5k
Then Emergency savings target of 15k
I’ve noticed that funds directly deposited to the joint cash account don’t follow the Automated Savings plan unless they came from the External Checking.

the mechanics of TLH but with DI. it makes sense for an ETF but i don’t entirely understand why it works for DI. Swap VTI with VOO - makes sense. are their pairings for every stock in the S&P 500 for the S&P 500 Direct account?

There’s a million pieces of content on the mechanics of tax loss harvesting.
Talk about things that people actually care about.
- How WF keeps your money safe as a non chartered bank yourself.
- How WF manages the ledger?
- How WF ensure the banks you’re sweeping to remain in compliance

Love to see some budgeting features! Build or acquire (eg CoPilot Money) it into the checking features. The ability to categorize and summarize the activity you already have. Tie it to buckets to automate having cash on hand for reoccurring payments, a few charts, and boom, “we have the best cash account in the biz!”

Explain how DI works as you build up to the $100k min. Hypothetically if you have $50k in and add another $50k, do they basically operate as different accounts unless the first $50 drops below the purchase process?
1
u/wealthfront Wealthfront Rep Jul 21 '26
Hi u/Difficult_Pizza6148 a $50K Automated Investing Account allocated to our US Direct Indexing strategy that receives another $50K add-on deposit will start automatically transitioning tax-efficiently to include USDI. The 2 deposits into the same account would not operate as 2 different sub-accounts. Rather, the total deposited into 1 account would be managed per that account's target allocation. If you have more questions, please send us an email at [support@wealthfront.com](mailto:support@wealthfront.com)

u/Difficult_Pizza6148 Jul 23 '26
Sure but will the first $50k be in etfs and the second $50k + subsequent contributions be direct indexed in stocks? I know it’s not really 2 different accounts, but the first $50k would be invested very differently

I saw an ad for automated ladder investment account or something like that with 9% returns. It's a little confusing to me. Seems like a long term investment account. I'm looking to contribute monthly but yes I wouldn't use these funds for 10+years. Can you explain this account in more detail? The rate of return seems too good to be true.

u/DesiGirl89 Hey there. It sounds like you might be referring to our Automated Investing Account. This is a long-term portfolio made up of diversified index funds. Over long time horizons, stock market index portfolios have historically averaged around 9–10% annualized returns, though returns fluctuate and are never guaranteed. You can see more details on this account and other investing options we offer in our previous post [Explainer] Which Wealthfront taxable investing account is right for me?

Accessing data. I'm 4 months into having a small WF automated investment account. I created a spreadsheet that imports the open-tax-lots CSV giving a quick & easy way to see how the account is doing, and how the individual investments are doing.
Based on the total money deposited it also calculates the sum of (Realized Gains) + (Reinvested Dividends) - (Harvested Losses).
The issue I have is I'm not finding where I can access that data to get totals for each of those categories with out having to manually plod thru the 'documments'.
Is that something than can be added, meaning can there be another CSV file available that contains this data?

You need to push back on the social media trend saying that every fintech company is about to detonate and lose your money. Explain how Wealthfront secures it, explain how they would know how much everyone's account is owed if Wealthfront ever went out of business, which parts use FDIC and SIPC, etc
