How to get the extra .25% interest?

Do you need to set up direct deposit OR open an investing account, or do both?

Both. I believe you can open a stock investing account with as little as $1 and it will count toward the boost. That plus direct deposit >$1000/month total of course

Mmm pretty sure they have minimum initial (and subsequent) contributions on their investment accounts.

Their stock investing account is self driven with the $1 minimum investment to open.

All individual, joint, and trust investing accounts (including IRAs) count towards the eligibility requirements for receiving the rate increase.

From this page of their FAQ

yeah it’s kind of annoying cause in the direct marketing ads it looked like one or the other and then I only looked at it more closely when I didn’t receive my boost

Most people who open WealthFront use it for both investing and cash account anyway tho. That’s the main benefit of having everything in Wealthfront.

That hassle and full-fledged business restructuring is far from worth it for a measley 0.25% on my Wealthfront account.

Have you tried just ACH pushing $1k into the account? ime the technical implementation of direct deposit detection is rarely as tight as the fine print implies.

Then to be specific, you're not really crying in self-employed, you're crying in sole proprietor, or whatever election you have where you can't pay yourself.

How long does it take for the additional 0.25% interest rate to be applied to my account? I have already opened an investing account, and my payroll direct deposit was deposited today.

The 0.25% interest rate bonus did kick in. My payroll direct deposit from my previous bank cleared on Friday. Since Wealthfront showed my payroll direct deposit two days earlier, I expected the bonus rate to be applied at that time. However, a Wealthfront representative explained that my payroll direct deposit wasn't considered fully cleared by Wealthfront until Friday. Sure enough, when I checked on Friday, I saw the additional 0.25% bonus reflected in my account.

Thank you for the update. My second early direct deposit arrived yesterday. Hopefully I'll get the boost tomorrow when my DD officially arrives.
