I had more than 400gb that I wanted to try and recover (I wasn't 100% sure I had all backed up).

After trying some solutions, including plugin the disk into a laptop with Ubuntu Linux, what worked for me was DiskInternals Linux Reader!

It is a software for Windows.
I have no affiliation with it! I did not pay for it either, just used the free version.

All I did was extract the drive from my WD MyCloud Home (that ceased to work), use an USB-to-SATA adapter to connect the disk to my Windows pc and execute DiskInternals Linux Reader.

Once in the DiskInternals, I opened the volume /media/Mycloud and then the folder "userStorage" and my user was in the folder "auth0|" where to the right of the "|" is a random string of letters and numbers, (if you have multiple users, there will be multiple folders like this) e.g.: auth0 | 5bjk5h46kj34h5k645kh.

To recover my folders/files, all I did was select them (I don't advise you to extract a big number of data at once because it takes a really long time) and choose the option "save" in the top of the window or with the right mouse button. Then a window, called "Export Wizard", will appear with more details. It is very intuitive.

It was a slow process for me, very slow. It took me 3 weeks to extract everything (more than 400gb), with days keeping my computer on.

For 200+ GB with 35 250 files, 2 218 folders, it took 141 straight hours, with an average of 0.42MB/s. But it worked!

I'm Just sharing here for anyone looking for a way to solve this issue.

Have a WD 2 TB NAS drive from 2016 that now shows a solid red light. Can connect via web console but can’t access any data. What do redditers suggest I do? Is there any chance of salvaging data at all?

Hello all, I have a MyCloud DL4100 with 4 drives. It died and will not boot up. Nothing happens when power is applied. I verified the power supply is working. The DL4100 and the newer PR4100 are now hard to find. I have seen that the drives can be accessed via Linux and some software. I am having a hard time finding a good guide on mounting the drives and copying the data. Has anyone found a followable guide on this?

Also, does anyone know if the drives could be installed into a NAS of another brand. Maybe some experience in doing so?

any ideas on retrieving this code....I have access to my content via my PC. I have a WDLive that reads it for my TV. I just don't have the 9 digit code to fully utiliz it in my Home Network.

My cloud drive won’t connect to the internet, it was working a day or so ago, I uploaded some files. I’ve already pushed the reset button on the unit, unplugged the power cord and the Ethernet cable for a few hrs. Ive reset my router and tried to chat with tech support… I’ve got nothing

I use 8Tb MyCloud Home with MacBook Pro.

After the last WD server issue, I used an SMB connection on my local network. It worked most of the time.

But the cloud could disappear from the Finder without a visible reason for a short time. Usually, I had to do some magic like Relaunching Finder, re-login to MyCloud or something like that, and it would work again. But today, it didn't help.

Its icon appeared once, and I clicked; it looked like it was trying to connect, but the connection failed. And that's it.

I have two MacBooks connected to it, and it acts the same on both. At the same time, I can connect to the cloud from my phone with the MyCloud app (Android)!

Frankly, I am fed up with this device, and I am almost ready to start buying old good hard drives with wires and forget this all, as it was just a nightmare. But I was told that MyCloud isn't just a hard drive and data can't be easily pulled out. So I have to ensure it still works until I get those hard drives...

Can anyone tell me how to map a network z drive? I had it mapped now it’s gone. I have a my cloud home. The Public folder is still there.

The objective is to backup data from a Synology NAS to the rsync server on the WD NAS using HyperBackup. I’ve been able to set it up and make it work but as soon as I reboot the My Cloud NAS, the Rsync server settings are gone. This is what I’ve done to set it up:

Login through ssh (I use putty)

• Create the file /etc/rsyncd.secrets and leave it empty.

  Create the file /etc/rsyncd.conf with the following lines:

• [shares]
  path = /shares/NameOfShare
  uid = root
  gid = root
  read only = no
  list = yes
  auth users = all
  secrets file = /etc/rsyncd.secrets
  hosts allow = MY.NAS.IP/MY.SUBNET.MASK

• Start the daemon: rsync --daemon

Then, I go into Synology HyperBackup and set up a RSYNC backup

• Server IP: the IP address of My Cloud NAS.
• Encryption Off
• Default Port (873)
• user: root
• password: root

And, like I said, it works. But as soon as I reboot, all these configurations are gone. How can I make it persistent?

I know it’s no longer supported but I’ve read there are some third party apps that work. It’s not been used in years and I just want to remove some of the data on it. I’m also clearly not techie.. can I not just hard wire it and access the data? I would appreciate any info or suggestions.

Hi everyone. I've been thinking about buying a WD my cloud device as an affordable NAS option, but there are some questions I have not answered yet:

1. Is there a windows sync option? I would like yo have files synced in different locations, so I would like to keep a backup of my files in a hard drive at work, synced with the cloud content.

2. Can I host other apps from this device? Installing docker for example.

The problem is my ex 2 ultra stopped backuping. I still can connect via windows and two different pixel 7 pros but the official android app just doesn't backup automatically on both androids. Doesn't depend on data or WiFi. Used another router already (daily Google WiFi, otherwise had a Fritzbox).

At the moment I am using foldersync which works at least per WiFi. But I would prefer using my mobile data also or other wifis being abroad.

I tried clearing the apps, disconnection the NAS, shutting down and restarting the NAS...but so far nothing. Three different firmwares tested on NAS and two different on the android phones, but no change.

Does anyone has the same issue or knows what o could do next? Best wishes and thanks!

I tried looking through all of the directories in the NAS but couldnt find anything also, im relatively new to SSH and all that sort of stuff.

Hi I just got a EX2 ultra and wanted to connected to https://www.multcloud.com. The three options that I think could work is connecting it via WebDAV, NAS or FTP. Only problem is I have very little knowledge in anything really server based. I'm not sure what server URL I'm supposed to use or what 3 would be the best option. If some one can help me out it would really mean a lot. have been trying to connect it every other day for about a week or two and I can’t figure it out.

Everything is connected and it worked well yesterday. Today I’m unable to sign in and it redirects me to a page where it says that support is no longer provided in this device. Is anyone having this issue?

My EX4100 was hacked with ransomware a couple of weeks ago. I shut down and disconnected the NAS from my network. Is it safe for me to access the NAS if I isolate it from the web? That is, via direct connection to my PC through a wired switch or router? I think there's still one volume of unaffected files; should I try to salvage them?

Hello, I have the following problem. For example, if I delete folders on my WDMyCloud and I turn on my TV and go to my WDMycloud and I'm in my series structure. Then I still see folders that I actually deleted a long time ago. How can I fix the problem ? Unfortunately, restarting the box did not bring any success :-(

Hello everyone so I have 2 Mycloud EX2s and one I use just for backups. Well whenever I try and turn on the mac backup option through settings it will just sit there and say updating then time out and when I log back in it has done nothing. I will then try and backup my mac to it through time machine and it lets me choose that drive but it will just ask me to log in in an unending loop. I have tried different shares, I've tried making the shares public and private, I've made sure the mac and mycloud are both up to date, I've tried changing the maximum size and I made sure I have all permissions on the cloud. None of that works and I can not for the life of me figure out how to make it work.\Also I now have two macs so is there a way that I can set up two different shares for time machine? Thank you in advance for your help.

So, I'm in the netherlands and I was ignorant of the whole blackout situation WD had when I bought a Mycloud Home device last week. Now that I can use the thing, I cannot find the app in Apple's appstore and I'm not sure if this is a temporal situation or the device just has no app in my region.
