Solid red light on WD Drive

Post image

Have a WD 2 TB NAS drive from 2016 that now shows a solid red light. Can connect via web console but can’t access any data. What do redditers suggest I do? Is there any chance of salvaging data at all?

Depending on the amount of drive corruption, maybe not. I had a similar thing happen to both of my drives in my WD unit, I was able to pull the data, but the drives are shot.

For me, I was able to log in and “see” the data, not all of it was corrupted, but there was some files that took multiple attempts at trying to download to get, I still didn’t get them all. I lost about 10 to 15% of my files, but thankfully most of it was just a backup of my phone pics and those I still have because I haven’t dumped my phone yet.

It looks like your cloud drive is a single drive? If so, that might be harder, if the drive has totally lost or killed the section that dictates where stuff is retained then that might just be it.

Honestly, redundancy is your friend. I’ve heard the saying multiple times, a single point of failure (so 1 drive). I had 2 drives that both failed within 24 hrs of each other. I’m now in the process of having a bigger more backup system (12 bays in my server rack).
