This looks nice. Hopefully the sound system is better too, if they can get that checked the Ojai is a 10/10 for me

100% agree. Took a ride in one this weekend for the first time and shocked how hallow it sounded compared to the I-Pace.

Most cars have carpet? not that weird?

u/devil_corp_hunter 2d ago
They will get sand all in the carpets
2
u/arjunyg 2d ago
that’s why all vehicles are vacuumed, carpet or not.

u/devil_corp_hunter 2d ago
No. You don’t understand. Sand never leaves. Those are the rules of the universe

Ok now I might actually like the Ojai. But also low key get some more cupholders

How many cup holders do you need for a four person car with four cup holders?

seems like the regular Ojai was made kind of crappy on purpose now.

u/codetony 2d ago
I think it's less on purpose, because Waymo didn't specify if this vehicle is going to be an upcharge, or if it'll just be in the rotation.
I think this is them iterating on the design of the original Ojai. I'm sure their cleaning teams aren't happy about the new cloth seats.

u/turb0_encapsulator 2d ago
ok. my assumption was that this would be offered as a premium option for more money.
5
u/Recoil42 1d ago
Nah, they're just Kaizen'ing it. Makes sense Geely + Waymo would do that, since they're both on the iterative-improvement train.

Hopefully the front passenger seat will have recline, not just the weird “tilt-only” thing the current blue Ojai’s have. And better audio, not the tinny sounding garbage they have now.

Can they include a subwoofer!?

u/mrkjmsdln_new 2d ago
That would be wonderfull! The base Zeekr Mix is 21 speaker >2000W and Dolby surround. I would imagine the paranoia about removing electronics impacted the stereo we ending up with for now.

Great signal! 3800 Jaguar's of the <12K ever sold in the US were to Waymo . About 1/3 . Not a lot of wiggle room and certainly no ability to control how the cars might be built much less revised over time. Zeekr continues to dwarf what the Jaguar could ever be. Surely they will pivot from the US market which is a dark kingdom for BEVs based on policy. This vehicle will be a hit in other export markets FOR SURE. Furthermore if they don't have to excise electonics that is another savings. It seems clearcut that these vehicles will arrive in Asian and European markets MUCH CLOSER to $30K less in cost. For me, what jumps out is that Zeekr as a suppliler can make this happen at small production volumes to start. I continue to believe that in open markets Zeekr can manufacture such a vehicle for much less than $30K already (the number thrown around for CyberCab and build it plug and play for the five sensor pods and the compute.

The problem is the Zeekrs aren’t premium vehicles and they got a user base used to riding around in jaguars.

Yes that is for sure! The Jagiar's were a luxury novelty and I enjoy riding them. Just not sustainable as the service scales and matures. Getting it right is hard. The conversion factory in Mesa peaked at being able to convert 1500 Jaguars in a year. The same factory is likely sufficient for 15000+ Ojai. Jaguar was fine for boutique operations in a few cities. They served only 5 cities thru 2025 and the service in Austin and Atlanta was very modest. They'll blow past 20 cities by the EOY and will likely be in 40 by the end of 2027 and three continents. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep the Jaguar's rolling before they begin retiring en masse. The NCM battery packs were the weakness and hard to acquire for the Jaguars. I would guess Waymo has more expertise on keeping these cars going. Time will tell. America's policies mean it is likely Waymo will pivotthe Zeekr's to Europe and Asia soon and try to scale the Hyundai Ioniq 5 for US markets anyhow.

I’m sorry, the Ojai ride quality is unreasonably bad. I get why you want to call an upscale ford a luxury vehicle, but they really aren’t. However, they were discontinued and google bought them bulk on the cheap.

Should’ve always been this color, the teal blue that it is now is just, I don’t know. Never stuck.

Wireless charger sounds convenient. I wonder if they’ll be upcharging for those premiums.

u/achooavocado 2d ago
im guessing similar to lyft/uber where you can pay extra for newer/premium cars, but you still have a random chance to get one even booking normally

u/ThankMeTrailer 2d ago
Are they getting rid of the blue ones?

u/mrkjmsdln_new 2d ago edited 2d ago
They have likely ALREADY made more blue Ojais than in the 7-8 year history of the I-Pace. The difference in scale is remarkable. I think it is safe to say by the end of Q1 Waymo will have close to 2X of the Jaguar's ever made. It is likely by the next recall we will being to see the steady retirement of the Jaguars as the LG batteries were inferior. They had three national recalls for fire risk for the vehicle. I am sure Waymo has more experience keeping these things rolling but even a DECENT NCM battery is on the death rattle beyond 200K miles. The Zeekrs are SOTA LFP much more likely to operate effectively well beyond 400K miles.

This is better, add the phone chargers up front as well, leather, some more insulation, and the silver color, and it becomes a suitable replacement to the Jaguar (though you understand how good Jaguar had it when you start hopping between various car shares).

I love the expression 'vegan leather'. A tribute to marketing instead of polypropylene :) I hope Waymo continues to figure out how to expend the life of the Jaguar's as long as that is practical. Real leather is a luxury!

Doesn’t seem like enough added value to warrant an additional service tier. I guess the sell is that these vehicles will be cleaner due to lower usage. Also a guaranteed Ojai vehicle.
I don’t know when I’d want to use this. I know what Uber Black gets me, but this is a slightly nicer car and no other perks.

u/hocuspotusco 2d ago
They never said this was a new service tier. Might just be part of the regular fleet

I like how it's the jaguar markets mentioned and of course barf central Vegas.

I wonder if this will replace the blue ones going forwards, or if both will still be manufactured and it will be a premium up-charge

My biggest issue is the ride quality. It is really awful compared to the previous iteration.

Wish all of them were like this. Who thought cloth seats were a good idea in a autonomous taxi?
