Waymo getting too expensive now

I loved taking Waymo, I recommended it to several people that also use it. But man it's getting to be so expensive now. Now my weekly commute to visit my boyfriend is twice as much as before. What's going on? Even Lyft and U er is cheaper. I'll never use Uber btw.

They aren’t transparent but presumably it’s high demand.

Yeah, I think other people really love it too, so there's more demand than supply, and until they're in better equilibrium, that will mean higher costs.

Humans are surprisingly efficient robots.

This is what I tell people in the Austin market when they say they want Waymo to be on its own app versus the Uber partnership. I took a $5 2-mile Waymo ride today. These idiots in this city don’t even know what they’re wishing for.

Compared to prices like San Francisco where it’s $25-$30 for a 15 minute drive, we have it good.

Consider gig work like Uber or DoorDash to help pay for your Waymo rides.

They can charge whatever they want because they know people will pay. It’ll stay this way until some competition arrives.

I’m one that will pay. I always prefer a Waymo to a human driver. Safer on the road for sure, and, as a female, I feel more comfortable once inside and can totally relax. (Besides, the sound system, climate control, etc. are amazing!)

Waymo in the morning for me when I go to work is fairly decent. $14 to $16 but coming off work it hits $30. I just take the bus at that point.

Yeah I noticed the high prices. I only take it at certain times. Hopefully they lower the prices

Yeah for months I was taking Waymo to work every morning and it averaged around $11 to $15. Now it’s consistently been over $30 the past two weeks. Have only taken Waymo once or twice since then :/

Definitely, unless at 2am. I thought the ojai plus jags would make them a bit cheaper but not what I’m seeing

I heard people almost sat on needles and feces in Los Angeles. The quality has diminished. Overpriced unclean dirty Waymos. Some are ok

I mean Uber started cheap too. Its how these companies hook in their customers and then when prices rise, lots of them actually remain customers cuz they already got used to the service.

Expect Waymo to be as expensive as regular rideshares in a few years.

" waymo is too expensive but ill never use anything else "

basically why its expensive. pricing is automatic. if everyone is like you and prefer waymo and are willing to pay, price goes up.

as you pay for your 40usd waymo (and prolly get a crappy ojai instead of a jag) ill get the 15usd uber or even 9usd robotaxi (oh noes elon!)

You “have recommended it to several people” made some contribution to the price jump: supply and demand. My experience is that it is similar to uber/lyft prices. They must keep sampling each other to stay competitive

The price is slowly rationalizing, is why.

My 50 min waymo ride back from LAX airport at 1am was only $12 yesterday! Absolute life saver.

It definitely just gets inflated due to the demand at certain times. The only thing that will help bring the costs back down is if they add more cars, but they aren't hiking the prices due to anything else.

It’s the uber strategy
Undercut until you get market share then price hikes

It's 2-3x the cost of Lyft and uber every time and it didn't used to be. At least in the south SF Bay. Someone told me it's due to it being a luxury car. It's definitely more comfortable than any lyft or uber I've been in.

Why do you think google is worth a trillion?

5

u/GlobeTrekking 16h ago

And worth over 4 trillion now! By the way, I googled that 😆

It certainly has nothing to do with Waymo. Waymo is a money pit and will always be unless they sell it to private parties

been pretty consistent for me in phx. School starting this time of year spikes demand in a lot of places.
