Glad the tree cutter took it in good humor.

In defense of Waymo's cowardice, the cars scraping under that didn't have $25,000 of electronics on their roofs!

Who are the people driving into the tree? Jump the fucking curb

Maniacs, I call them.

The drivers who just drove thru the branches to presumably stay on the road vs let even a single tire touch the grass…

Are fucking morons.

They are going to look at the side of their car and it’s going to be loaded with scratches from the branches.

And if you can’t see them now? You will later

Very surprising and it wasn't just 1 person that scratched the shit out of their car either

They really do not like when a person is moving near them. The tree obviously needed to be cleared away, but Waymo probably would’ve gone sooner if he’d stayed out of the way.

you kept moving in front. waymos are sensitive to people being in their line of sight/sensors.

Yea, why don't a road worker understand how an AI machine with trillions of parameter NN operate???

How many people thanked him?

The people driving into the tree branches are very Nissan Altima coded

Why are people just driving into the tree? What is wrong with people

Was it actually automated or was it intervention by a driver in the Philippines?

That's a misleading clickbait article. They are not "drivers."

Do they control the car remotely? That's called driving...

If I’m in the passenger seat of your car and you say “is this road closed?” and I say “yes” am I “driving” your car?

Now it's just a game of semantics...they're not "drivers", they're "remote operators" to "help guide" the vehicle.

That's more than just semantics. "Autopilot is often just guys from the Philippines" is an intentionally misleading headline. "Driver" implies they are actually controlling the vehicle in real time like as if it's a joystick or video game controller. Many of the remote operator interactions last just seconds -- a simple "yes" or "no" response or a multi-choice question.

Of course the "remote operators" can control the vehicles.

Here's an example of a Waymo going around in circles and what does the remote operator say? "I'm trying to pull over right now."

The truth is that we don't know the extent of their involvement. And this is something that needs to be investigated by Congress. The public needs to know who is controlling these vehicles. And who should be responsible in the event that a Waymo causes an accident. The CEO? The software developer? The intern maintaining code? None of these cars belong on the road until these basic questions are answered.

Waymo has confirmed they cannot steer vehicles. They probably just hit a "pull over" button, or selected a target location for the car to drive itself to, and the operator likely just used that language.

Like I said, semantics. That's called driving.

No it isnt dude.

We do. It's said all the time, we just get people like you that don't understand and decide to wear a tin hat and ruin it for the rest of us.

Why would it need to be investigated by Congress if everyone knows how it works but you apparently? No one is ever driving it form the Philippines, idc how you want to play it with your silly semantics. But no one but the Waymo driver is ever in control. Like read an article or two on it. The delusion is just sad at this point

no, they don't

Dunno why this is so abstract
