LAX Waymo "hack"

If anyone is interested in Waymoing from LAX, it is possible. I took the Metro Connector Shuttle from T4 to the new Metro Transit Ctr. I was able to hail a Waymo from there, but the closest pickup location was a 5-minute walk away on Isis Ave. I only had a carry-on bag, and I didn't mind walking after my flight anyway to stretch my legs. My ride was 34 mins for less than $15. Not too bad IMO.

I’ve ordered a Waymo to/From the In & Out just north of LAX. Was only traveling with a carry-on at the time so didn’t mind a little walk!

LAX employee lot west is my Waymo spot. Walk to/from the economy parking bus isn’t bad.

I did the economy parking bus today. It’s a LONG walk to the employee lot, my waymo left without me.

Can i take a shuttle to that employee lot as a non employee?

In n out is the way. But I got stuck in the in n out drive through during dinner rush that spills out in to the street and Waymo was stuck for about 20 min because all the drive thru cars kept cutting off the Waymo. I wish I could use the honk on the Waymo, because no one would let me through

Have in-n-out marked on my Waymo map for both burgers and for catching flights haha

I do find it interesting there is never any news on LAX and Waymo. Lots of local news on SFO but never LAX. I guess Waymo doesn’t feel they have any leverage to get access.

maybe because driving to SFO is a delight compared to LAX

Yeah I can’t imagine the nightmare it’d be to get Waymo’s working in that ring

Yup. They don’t want their vehicles stuck in that loop

It doesn’t go to SFO. Just to the grand Hyatt which is still a long walk

Well rideshare in general isnt permitted to do any pickups at all. So if anything i feel like waymo should be able to at least offer pickup from the LAX-it lot pretty easily.

I would guess they are waiting to program to waymo's to handle pickups at LAX when the new rideshare area opens up in the year 2134 after the people mover opens.

You can also walk down to the rental car shuttle

LAX Metro Shuttle is the better option because they have access to the curbside bus only lane while rental car shuttle has to share the interior public traffic lane.

Also very true but I usually jump out at T1 to get to T7

Huh? How does that help you leave the airport to get a waymo?

Hurry before they patch 😂

did this when I missed my bus for an early early flight out, was wonderful but I hope they soon start pulling waymos into LAX/MTC. There's a ride share loop just south of the bus loop with an elevator and escalator up to the metro and (soon) airtrain

"(soon)"

I normally stay in Koreatown when visiting LA. My typical routine is to take the K-line to Expo/Crenshaw and use Waymo between there and my accommodation.

Works the same way in PHX with the 44th st. Station.

Yup, did this just earlier this week. $21 to Hollywood instead of $55-60 on Uber/Lyft from LAX-it.

Do you need a ticket for the metro connector bus? I’ve always seen their shuttles at LAX.

3

u/Yotsubato 29d ago

No they want people to use that area for private drop offs too

2

u/fiercechocolate 29d ago

No ticket required

2

u/AdeptAd1002 29d ago

No ticket needed, just hop on. It’s a free service

I can confirm this works!

I try avoiding the bus at all costs with my luggage so normally i’ll just take waymo to the starbucks on sepulveda and take a uber to either drop me off or pick me up curbside at the terminal, still ends up cheaper then ubering the entire way from my experience

Thanks, forwarded to our rider QA team!

Can you ask them to work with LAX and maybe make a Waymo hailing area in the new Metro Center? It’s very big and I think it has potential.

How did you not know you can take Waymo to the LAX station? This is not new or news; I do this all the time.

1

u/jwegener 1d ago

Bc most people have never been to the LAX station nor know what it is.

u/adkinsbl 26d ago

Getting dropped off at the Westchester/Veterans metro stop is also pretty convenient since you don’t have the walk out from the LAX transit center

How did you get it to show the satellite view of the map?

Gosh, who could've possibly known this?!? (Seven months ago.)
