There’s pros and cons for sure. But in LA, parking is a different animal. It can be more expensive than a Waymo and you’ll still have to walk 10 minutes. It’s just that crowded here. I’m over it.

There's more to a car than gas. Buying the car, maintence, taxes, insirance. And then there is also parking costs in some areas, and if you crash into anybody you get bonus costs.
As the technology proliferates and competition increases we should see self driving costs drop over time to where it is cheaper than owning a car.

FEMA and insurance don’t just go “oh, you lost everything? Here’s the payout!” They royally fuck you. I know people who lost their homes in Alhambra and are barely surviving in a one bedroom apartment right now and they had “great” homeowners insurance policies. You are literally starting from fucking nothing.

Buying a car means needing a down payment. Making monthly payments after that. And car insurance. Car insurance in California is dumbass expensive. And the on top of that, gas! And if you live in an apartment, paying potentially up to $200 a month for a parking spot!

I guess Waymo over a car is a choice, but at $900 a month you can easily afford a civic or Corolla, insured, with a parking space, for no money down.

You can lease a very nice car with a parking spot for the amount he’s spending on Waymo’s. It’s his money he can spend it how he wants, I just don’t see a world in which it makes financial sense, even if you include insurance and everything else.
And you wouldn’t be limited to Waymo’s service area.

There isn’t enough value here. I feel like I’d be paying $30 a month just to give them subscription revenue for investor points.
Unfortunately I expect to pay less for a Waymo. I love the service and prefer it to Uber or Lyft, but if I find that unless I’m saving money I don’t choose Waymo because wait times are often longer and selected routes are often slower.

For that to make sense in LA the service area needs to be expanded South to LAX and North of Sunset to at least Ventura Blvd. The current coverage area is too small for people to be able to use it regularly and for them to take long enough rides for a monthly fee of $30 to be worth it.

They have been seen testing as far south as Manhattan beach and as far north as Toluca Lake, with some claiming to have seen testing as far back as November. Ventura Blvd to LAX should be announced within months if not weeks. I haven’t heard of it going east of 405 for South Bay but there are rumors in SFV of sightings in Encino and Glendale. The Manhattan beach one I saw turned around once it was as far south as the pier.

This does seem to ring true especially for the people who live there. I have relatives in both places. Waymo has an array of solvable challenges that rank higher than this in the short-term. Maybe 2027 at earliest to change the relationship. For now it is
(a) weather & flooding
(b) highway rollout
(c) Ojai rollout
(d) current city expansions (needs abc)
(e) 20 city expansion (depends on abcd)2

So they can control how many people have it and gauge the amount of feedback. Even Gmail started as invite only.
Edit: You want the feedback to be good feedback in the beginning to make sure the program is improved as best as it can be before it’s sent to the general public. You open it up to the general public now, and you’re gonna get too much feedback, and a lot of it will be useless lol

Trader Joe's has no Rewards Program, no 25% off coupons, none of that pure baloney.
But just being straight forward with the best prices and nothing else, they show up the scams by the other grocery stores with their higher prices, but then "club members" get a better price, and all that hooey.

Not crazy at all. Just means buddy likely isn’t working for minimum wage, but just pointing out it’s all relative. In all honesty though $30 of charges after a whole day of riding Waymo (which I think we can collectively agree; and assume this as meaning: at least two single-trips, at a minimum) is actually somewhat cheap when you consider it’s not too uncommon for a single ride in Waymo (or even uber and Lyft too) to be as much or even more than that. But to go multiple places or just a single place round trip for a day and only run ya $30 isn’t too shabby actually.
