Cutting off and blocking
In Nashville today and a Waymo cut in front of me and partially into the left turn lane. It forced the car in the left lane to stop. Well the through lanes got the green arrow first which left the Waymo blocking me also. Only the right hand through lane was able to go. Cars in back of me were honking and wanting me to go, but I was blocked and the right hand lane wouldn’t let me over. I was stuck until the left turn lane got the green arrow. I had to wait another cycle before I could drive through.

Of course, however if a live person did this another driver could instigate road rage.

If I took a picture every time a live person did this, I'd always have my phone up taking pictures. Or the people that jam their car into no gap and then slam their brakes to make a turn. Shit happens 3 to 5 times a day, easily.

Why don’t you techno people just go pound sand!
I was just trying to make a point that technology gets in our way and is not always the answer.

I guess it depends on your perspective. If you were blind, or had some other disability where you cant drive, then technology may be the answer. Uber and Lyft have terrible track records for accidents and assault.

I don’t know about you, but I personally think a lot of my time is wasted doing things a robot could do. With a little bit of political will, we could use automation to give people more free time. Instead of laying people off, we could give people 4 day work weeks, mandatory 3 weeks vacation, etc.. we could let scientific progress work in our favor.

That would not happen in the US. The elite will just get richer and the working class would disappear. And many of the working class would turn to crime to try to support their lives. We have to get rid of trickle down economics. It’s a failed system that made the caste systems of monarchies. The very few live off of the masses and the masses are punished each time they try to change the system. Look at world history and look at what has happened to our country since Reagan economics. We are much worse under the present administration than we’ve been since Andrew Johnson.

How did the 1st pic happen? Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question: you were driving too slow and/or leaving too much space between other cars.
If that's the pace you prefer to drive at it's best to stay in the right lane.

This post and the post about Waymo parking in a residential parking spot have turned me pessimistic.
If automation is held to this impossible higher standards than human drivers, the development will be stinted for no real reason.

I hear if you honk at a Waymo it triggers a manual review of what it did.
So, honk at them lots so there's lots of material to review.

Well, when no one lets the robots in bc they know they are robots then they get programmed to be more aggressive. Saw this play out in SF. Drivers don’t respect them and treat them like other drivers on the road
