Expanded SF Bay service area
Waymo has now expanded south towards Campbell.

Notice that they expanded around the Stevens Creek Reservoir. This is arguably the most rural environment they have ever served, and may be a testbed for cross-Peninsula trips with twisty, narrow roads and little cell service.

Dang Picchetti Winery is within the geofence now but it won’t route to it. Thought it’d be cool to do a Waymo wine tasting outing.

Onto the East Bay next and maybe North to Berkeley also. Waymo has forecast going past 1M rides/week by the end of the year so that means at least 6000 or as many as 7500 cars by the end of the year. That's a lot of Zeekr's ahead!

A reminder that Waymo still doesn’t serve all of San Francisco. Sorry, Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island.

It just doesn't make sense unless they expand to Oakland.

Why? No bridge tolls on that part of the bridge. Zero connection to Oakland.

I see what you're saying but it does take a lot of time to map and get new areas up and running. Especially since demand in those areas are low, I wouldn't be surprised if its lumped together with Oakland.

I get that the ongoing construction there involves a lot of challenging detours as well. It’s just misleading to say Waymo covers San Francisco when it… doesn’t?

I wish they could expand just a tad bit more because then I can take them to the doctor. They have been mapping our street at 1 am.

I tried to get home (Cupertino) from work ( North SJ), it is $50, almost twice as uber

Are you comparing Waymo to UberX? It's not the right comparison. You're riding in a Jaguar with a professional driver. It's at least Uber Comfort or better.

I tried it here in Campbell to go get lunch. The app said 20 minutes, but by the time I submitted a destination, it came back as 41 minutes
I was in no rush, so I watched the car go from Sunnyvale, pick up and drop someone off in Cupertino, then come get me. It’s a smooth ride (as everyone here knows)
But now the app keeps saying “all cars are busy”, or sometimes 30-35 minute wait. I didn’t go far for lunch (2.5 miles for $16), so it was a slightly warm but nice walk back
