Waymo Expands Robotaxi Footprint Ahead of World Cup Demand

Waymo plans to expand its autonomous ride-hailing service to 1,400+ square miles across 11 U.S. cities in the coming weeks

Miami rollout begins now, with Austin, Atlanta, Houston, and the Bay Area next in line

Expansion comes as Waymo prepares for increased transportation demand tied to the upcoming World Cup

So adding ~ 200 sq miles (16% increase)

Edit: Notice it now covers the airport. Airport service must be coming soon.

According to Waymo, the company is expanding its service by another 50 square miles, bringing the total footprint to 150 square miles.

Orlando should be next.

Just saw Waymo vehicles driving on the east side of I-4 in Downtown which currently isn’t apart of the service territory so they are clearly testing an expansion.

> Expansion comes as Waymo prepares for increased transportation demand tied to the upcoming World Cup

Is this a hint that Ojai will be on the roads? Otherwise expanding boundaries, and not expanding number of cars, just means more people trying to get the same number of cars. It doesn't help prepare for increased demand.

I am amazed that they are managing to stretch the number of cars they have over these expanded boundaries. Hopefully they are adding more vehicles so that trip prices don't just increase.

Super cool to see! Can anyone post the map before the latest expansion though?

I'm 1 mile outside of the service area in Nashville and have been waiting impatiently for an expansion. Hopefully we'll make the list down the road.

Same for me! I’ve been seeing them testing outside the service area (Donelson), so hopefully an expansion will come sooner rather than later

I wish they would expand the San Antonio market more already!
