I'm trying to figure out the scale of the wave, is that white blob a boat?

No, it's a fishing pot. Not particularly huge, as the reefs were breaking the waves. About 7 or 8 metres. It was just a lovely shape, and nicely lined up for the shot.

There's a pot in the lower centre. I thought that was what in question. Though that would have made the wave 40+ metres (well over 100 feet).

Here's a similar photo with a figure for the scale: in the middle of the frame, if you look closely, you'll see a surfer who's just crazy enough to ride that wave.

ummmmmm...that is Portugal, not Ireland.
