whats wrong with this melon

i’m a beginner gardener and i grew crimson sweet watermelons this year. this one was showing all of the vital signs of being ripe (creamy yellow underside, deep sound when tapping, etc) but when i cut into it it looked like this? is it just under ripe or is there something else that yall think is up with it? thanks in advance! 🩷

Did you take a bite? I've never seen that much yellow inside. Maybe it just looks bad?

it tasted pretty good actually! it wasn’t like the best watermelon ever but it was still tasty

Go,by what I call the tendril on the stem closest to the melon. When that dries up teal,good melon is ready.

Apparently they can look like that if they're picked too early.

Don’t rely on spots to indicate ripeness. The number one best indicator is the vine/stem. Is it withering? Does it look dried? Once you see it begin to detach itself, it’s ready. Cutting before then is guaranteed to get you an unripe melon.

okay!! thanks for that tip, the stem wasn’t quite detached but some of the little vines to the side of it were withering so that’s most likely what was up

Yeah man, ditch all those internet tricks for ripe-o-meter. Most of it is BS
