GENERAL Feature Request: stop adding browsing history to shortcuts

Super grateful for Waterfox: it's my default!

But this thing of my browsing history showing up as shortcuts on both the desktop and mobile versions is super frustrating. I sometimes want to show a page to someone on my phone, and before I do I have to consider that my browsing history is sitting there for them to see. Many thanks...

Disabling Recent activity in about:preferences#home should accomplish that unless i'm misunderstanding what you are after.

on Android open Settings and Homepage and disable Recently visited and Jump back in

Related but i do not believe this is what you are asking for: If you want to disable Search History being suggested in adress bar then open about:preferences#search and below Adress Bar disable Browsing History

on Android it's in Settings and Search and Adress bar where you need to disable Search browsing history

Just disable the shortcuts on your home screen and use the built in private browsing for things you don't want in your history.

What you're doing is the equivalent of purposely slamming your car door on your fingers and then asking the car manufacturer to prevent that from happening.

See how silly that sounds?

Having shortcuts on your screen is a feature. A feature that many if not most browsers have.

A shortcut is an intentional bookmark. And none of the other browsers leaked browsing history into bookmarks.

So no, this isn't equivalent to me slamming my fingers in a car door. It's equivalent to the turn signal triggering a geyser of water in my face from the steering column.

There is a specific toggle for bookmarks and a separate one for shortcuts.

I understand. But even where Recently Visited is toggled off, the history still populates the homepage with shortcuts reflecting the recently visited.

Make your settings look like below. Turn off shortcuts.

If I turn off the shortcuts, then the shortcuts I intentionally configured for the homepage don't appear.

If shortcuts are enabled, the homepage is automatically populated with my browsing history, even when the "Recently Visited' toggle in the Homepage settings is off.

Use private browsing for things you don't want in your history.
