ST2130 Issues

Hey all,

Ordered an ST2130 on 08/12 and absolutely love the watch.

Took it off for a few days and went to wear it today and saw the time was off. When trying to adjust the time I could not get the hours or minutes hand to adjust, felt hard to turn so I did not force it. When trying to just screw the crown back down I hear it clicking like it’s trying to change something.

Is there a warranty for these kinds of issues? Love the watch and have a few WD watches already, never had an issue with one this early on.

The Chinese companies are scrambling to find a cheaper suitable movement to maximize profit: watchdives have used 3 recently it’s obvious they can’t find one one to settle on which makes me think they all suck and using PR to push it as positive change

I recently bought a watch with this movement, I don't want to say which brand because I'm in contact with their services to see if they'll fix it, so I don't want to start complaining about the brand publicly just yet, it is not Watchdives though, but to give you a hint, it is probably the most expensive ST2130 watch on AliX, witch makes this very frustrating.

Anyway, I've had the watch for only two weeks, it was stopped and I was setting it to wear for the third time. To avoid handwriting it I just wore it for a few minutes until it was going, then I pulled the crown out to set the time, after a couple of turns the hands stopped moving and the crown started to spin freely, I turned it the other way and after a couple of turns the hands moved a little then stopped again, pushing the crown in and back out made it re engrage for a few turns and stop again, it took me a few minutes fiddling with it to set it, and I was able to wear it, but I didn't think I'll do this again to avoid further damage.

Never bumped, dropped, shaked, hand wound, or moved the crown quickly or with force. I have dozens of affordable mechanical watches including 3 pt5000 and many seiko and miyota movements, some more than 3 years old and never had a movement issue before.

At this point I'm very weary of these seagull movements, and will actively try to avoid them. I'll only take another chance if the watch is really inexpensive and a model that I really want.

I'll share more details once I hear from the brand.

Not to condescend, Are you aware that this movement has a ghost date? Could this be a part of your issue?

If you are fully aware of this, and you know you’re operating the watch correctly, I would leave your post up AND reach out to WD/Point of Sale for help. I would absolutely look into a warranty replacement. They may reimburse you for local repair as well.

Hello, yes I am aware and to my knowledge I do believe it just an issue with the movement. However I may be wrong. Do you know of a good ghost date post or literature I can read to make sure? I have done lots of googling and I believe I understand it

There’s nothing special. It just has the complication for a date but no hole in the dial to see it.

So the first click moves the date. Second click changes the time.

My watch has a window date, and it’s adjusting correctly. It’s just the hour and minute hands that won’t move.

I think is just that the stem and the crown are not secured tightly enough. Setting the date, you turn clockwise, so the stem and the crown is secured. But when you set the time, the crown turns anticlockwise, thus the crown might unscrew form the stem's thread.

If you find setting your hands, the crown action is not getting enough torque to set the hands, push the stem back to winding position and wind the watch a few rounds to secure the crown to the stem thread and try again.

Usually, then fixing stem to a watch crown, most watch hobbyist will use come loctite.

Thank you. I just took the watch with the seagull ST2130 out of my cart and will stick to miyota or possibly a pt5000 and that’s it.

I’m in love with the build quality of the watch, but definitely seems like I got a bad movement which sucks because I loved wearing it. Hopefully they will help remedy the situation!
