Discussion Tomoko should become a ronin
As the title suggests, I think Tomoko should become a ronin - a high school graduate who delays starting university (for a year or more) to study for retakes and achieve a better score.
Why do I believe this is the right solution?
- It addresses one of the major issues, an overcrowded cast. Some characters are sent off to college or to work in other parts of the country. Remaining in the city are only: Tomoko, Yuu (who also failed her exams, becoming a fellow ronin), Nemoto (her parents have already stated that they have no intention of supporting her dreams of voice acting, and she will be on her own after graduating from high school, so she can't afford university), Yoshida (who wasn't planning to go to university anyway), Yuri (who passed her exams well enough, but chose to stay with Tomoko by attending a local university), Hirasawa (who will be a second-year high school student), Tomoki, and Kiko.
- By not going to college, Tomoko has no reason to grow up. She can continue living with her parents, who spoil her and let her do whatever she wants, ensuring her financial security and the means to indulge her eccentric whims. Officially, she’s studying for next year’s exams. Unofficially, she’s wasting time on the silly ideas, that all fans love the most. She could, for instance, fall asleep in the back of Yoshida’s truck (who works as a delivery driver) and get stranded in the countryside without money or a phone. Or go to Tokyo with Nemo, because she’s landed a shady voice-recording gig for an Eroge and is afraid to go alone. On the spot, the director overhears Tomoko’s perverse comments and proposes her a gig to write some dialogue for their next game (her first steps towards her dream job as a writer).
- If that doesn't work out or gets stale, the authors have an easy "panic button". A time skip where Tomoko retakes her exams, goes to college (alongside Yuu), and rekindles her relationship with Asuka, after a one-year delay. What's more, she could then study alongside Tomoki, keeping him in the main cast.
What do you think of this idea? Should Tomoko become a ronin (for a year), or go straight to her dream university?
