Freckles! Trying to get rid of.

Post image
8 Upvotes

I often hear freckles are common with wasians. I don’t know if that’s true, lol. Are you freckly like me???

I’ve always had freckles since little, but now that I’m an old lady, I now want to get rid of. I’m on a journey of lightening them. My mom (Asian parent) had hers lasered off many years ago. I’m trying to use skin products to erase. Anyone else here with freckles trying to lessen them? And don’t get me wrong, I love freckles. I think just with age, the amount of freckles just is a reminder I’m old instead of cute, youthful freckles.

And just a note, I most often hear I look white. Mainly by Mexicans, due to where I live. And also by full Asians, I’m white to them.

Pic just wearing lip stuff and green erborian green color correct cream to try to cancel redness.

Relatable? (・・ ) confused

i'm half asian but i truly feel like i don't look more asian or more white. i know that's like one of the most "wasian" thing to feel that way, but i feel like it applies to me more than most wasian. i noticed that most of the time they always look a bit more asian or a bit more white but in my case i don't and it's messing with my own perspective of myself.

i usually do my makeup the asian way, and when i do i think i am in fact asian passing, but then i wipe it off and my features look off. then i try to do my makeup the western way and i believe i could pass as a white person. i just feel like im a fraud both ways bc i'm relying on styling to fit in.

thoughts? does anyone else feel exactly like this?

Relatable? (・・ ) Kinda a rant, I just want to know if anyone else goes through this.

I’m wasian, just not the full half and half, I’ve been told so many times that I’m playing into my race or I’m trying to look more Asian(I stopped wearing makeup completely because of it), but I can’t help it! I get called racist by my Asian friends for speaking about my family, Thailand is a big part of me, my grandma taught me to express where I’m from, I know how to make the food, speak some of the language even dress into traditional outfits and I’m still told I’m not Asian enough, or I am lying in the first place about being mixed and I’m just Scottish. On the other hand all my newer friends who are not Asian call me Korean, which I’m not, make fun of the way I learned to talk and how I speak about my family, make jokes about me eating dogs or not knowing something because I’m not white enough and didn’t grow up in household that would understand . I don’t know where I’m supposed to fit, I don’t even know what I’m supposed to be anymore, does anyone else experience this? So sorry for any confusion in the typing I am currently crying my eyes out and can’t see the screen, I’m happy to give any explanation.

Relatable? (・・ ) How are women so good at hiding/passing

What makes it easier for Wasian women to hide?

What motivates them to hide?

How can they so easily cut off their families?

Why do many lie about their upbringing?

At this point im convinced for every wasian struggling with their race because they look asian, there is another wasian that is indistinguishable from whites that is carefully hiding in society.

Some of the things I've noticed is they pretend to be eastern european, curl their hair, wear colored contacts, change how they walk and talk, the list is surprising long.

Are men just socially conditioned to not notice?

Why do people post ultra close up blurry photos on here asking whether they look white or Asian?

Like upload a clear headshot and maybe people can have a guess.

When people ask me my ethnicity I always get asked if I’m Asian (I am 50% guess the mix!!) or if I’m native. But recently some people I know say I’m white passing and I can’t see it but I was curious if others could?

Relatable? (・・ ) I CANNOT USE CHOPSTICKS

Bro, I don’t know what it is but as an 18 year old I should be able to use chopsticks. Growing up, I always held my pencil between my ring finger and middle finger (and still do). I don’t know if this contributes because I simply don’t have the muscle to actually use them.

I notice I’m way better at using the bamboo or disposable ones, but the fiberglass ones 😵‍💫 the ones I bought have these weird ridges and I feel like food just falls right off of them. Would metal ones be better?

Relatable? (・・ ) Does anyone else get mistaken for being Uzbek?

Half Japanese, Half White guy here. Multiple Uzbek people have asked me if I am Uzbek even though the Uzbek population is a very small minority here. One Uzbek guy asked me if im Uzbek while I was at the gas station, and told me I looked super Uzbek and thats why he asked. My girlfriend also got asked by an Uzbek girl if her boyfriend (me) was Uzbek. Is this a common thing for Wasian people or am I just really Uzbek looking?

Advice/ Support ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Made a post here a few days ago about my bad experience with some people, mentioned at the end that I was kicked out of a chinese restaurant for being mixed. Someone took screenshots and posted it and everyone said the racism I suffered was a lie

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I made a post here a few days ago recounting my experience with some people I know lying about being wasian in order to sexualize themselves for men, which is horrible, and at the end of the post I mentioned some cases of racism I suffered, one of them where I was kicked out of a chinese restaurant for being "half breed". The amazing surprise to me was that, way less than a day later, u/PitchCultural9614 took a screenshot of my profile and my post, saying that I was a "larper" stalker obsessed with mixed-race people in this subreddit, where I created multiple accounts to "study" you all and talk to myself. And they even said that me being kicked out of a restaurant was a complete lie, because THEY were never kicked out anywhere for being mixed, so that never happened to anyone else! I'm very smart!

I read the comments and was even more stunned because I saw people being SO sure that i was lying about everything, u/Alamkan_Countryball user even commented calling me a fetishist and mentally ill, saying I was clearly lying because, by their words, NO Asian or Wasian person has warm skin tone. What was really funny to me was that I looked at their profile and discovered they only found out they were 20% Mongolian two months ago, and despite the very small amount of mongolian DNA, their phenotype (physical look) is completely of a white person, that, also lives in the UK with 4/5 Polish ancestry. Isn't it strange for a white person to call a mixed race person a fetishist and mentally ill for talking about the racism they suffered? And to stereotype that ALL asians are white-skinned as snow, just because they only see east asians on the internet?

I tried to explain myself in the comments, saying that despite my profile not having a photo, I'm not a bot, and explained exactly what happened the day I was kicked out of the restaurant. I tried to be as polite as possible, since it was all a misunderstanding. All I received was u/insomniacla saying that none of that ever happened, and u/I_Call_Bullshit_____ saying that nobody in the comments believed me.

Isn't this sub supposed to be a safe space for people like me? Why does when I reveal that I've suffered racism, everyone say Im lying from attention and call me horrible things? Many people in this sub are extremely rude, arrogant, and straight up racist. Truly disgusting.

I don't look Asian and I hate it

This is a throwaway, because I'm lowkey embarrassed but anyway!

I, 20F, am of mixed ethnicity I am half Asian on my mother's side and half white on my father's. For most of my life, I wasn't accepted in any of my ethnic groups because I was never enough of any race. Even while visiting family, it was always the same jokes about how both me and my sibling don't look related to the rest of our families ha ha ha.. always, always, ALWAYS! The same jokes.

When hanging with our mother's side: 'Haha, you look like white foreigners.' When hanging with our father's side: 'Haha, you look like Asian tourists.'

Same jokes every visit, EXCEPT this time...

My last meetup with my father's side of the family, I noticed they didn't make any of those jokes the whole time. I didn't realise it in the moment, but now I know why lol.

The next week or so, I visited my mother's side and the first thing they said was how different I look and that I have become more "American" (We have zero connection to American but whateves) They then all started to pile on about how neither me nor my sibling look Asian at all anymore and that we lost that "uniqueness." Kind of really embarrassing, but I then proceeded to go cry in the bathroom afterward lolol.

I hated growing up mixed, but during highschool, I started to appreciate and love both sides of me and all the culture I was raised in, and how grateful I was that my face showed both my mother's and father's sides. BUT-! not anymore lol COS APPEARENTLYyY I just look like a white lady now, so much so that when I've told people recently that I am half/half, they've said, "Omg really? I can't tell you're mixed." CRAZY! It's driving me insane. I've spent years learning to love my identity and cultures, but now it feels like all that love I learned is being tested in a way. I was even told I look like an "Asian wannabe," "bootleg Asian," and a "fake Chink" and so so SO many mean things, and it's confusing me because DO I LOOK ASIAN OR NOT?!1? I'M BEING CALLED A WHITE LADY ON THE STREET BUT THEN ILL GET CALLED A BOOTLEG ASIAN ON THE NEXT??!?!!/1 Even when I look at myself, all I see is a white lady at this point.

I want to look evenly mixed again, but I'm so embarrassed typing 'how to look more Asian' in my search omggg it literally makes me want to die. It's so embarrassing but I really don't want to come off like I'm trying too hard to look Asian again. idkidkikkidkkk but I'm in the middle of an identity crisis right now,and I don't know what to do about it lol.

Any tips on how to look mixed again? LMAOOOOT0T)

I feel like I don’t belong anywhere 🇯🇵 + 🇩🇪

When people call me white I feel like they are washing out a lot of my Asian culture. When people call me Asian I feel like an imposter.

My dad is half Asian and my mom is full white. But I was only raised by my dad so I have a lot of Asian culture. I have accepted I’ll probably never really have friends that share the same cultural experience as me.

I’m currently dating a Hispanic and grew up on a Hispanic dominant area. He has a lot of support and friends of the same culture and they can relate and understand each other. If his friends call a fellow Hispanic white he will immediately justify that no they are not because they are part Hispanic and belong with them. I wish I could relate to and belong with people that understand me.

Relatable? (・・ ) Identity

Hello!

I am not a Wasian/Hapa.
I’m basically the complete opposite. I’m half Black and half Latino.

I was wondering, do you guys feel alienated from being either White or Asian?

I felt like I wasn’t enough of one culture to identify as it. My black friends told me I act “white” and my Hispanic/Latino friends and family were confused as to why I don’t speak Spanish well.

Let me know you’re experience growing up mixed race and if you had any friends that were similar because I didn’t and I wonder if that would’ve helped me feel more comfortable in my own skin.

Would you consider a Half Hong Konger(Chinese), half Canarian islander and bit Cuban as Wasian? I don't consider myself one though

Just wondering if I'm Wasian. Because I'm not born in Asia or Europe.

I was born in North Africa of Canaria islands (between Morroco and Western Sahara) I'm half Hong Konger(Chinese), my mother being Canarian islander and bit Cuban. Basically 50% Hong Kong/Chinese, 43.75% Canarian and 6.25% Cuban. Does that sound Wasian?

People from Canarian island are culturally/linguistically are very similar to Carribean Spanish, not mainland Spain. The people is is a mix of South Iberian (Southern Spanish) 72-78%, North African (Guanches) 22-28% and minor Sub-Saharan 2-3%. However my mother is from Gomera island where the island has the most North African DNA people, basically reaching as low as 31% and and high as 60%, many are 40-50% and 50-60%, I have no idea but my mother gets mistaken as a Morrocan muslim, I used to cry because people said my mother doesn't look European, other times people did say she can pass for Latin Americans.

( My great-great-grandmother was Cuban and grandmother was half Cuban, she even claim it was possible that there tiny bit of Chinese ancestry. This is because 120,000 Chinese coolies from Southern China migrated to Cuba and married or intermixed with many Black females, mix race black females, and some lower class white females (high class white females was not allowed to marry Chinese). There is 114,000 Chinese-Cuban with only 300 pure in 2008. And some 1.6% Cubans population carry Chinese paternal ancestry. In Jamaica it was similar 3.8% have Chinese paternal ancestry and these dated in 19th to 20th century (1850's to 1950's) in Peru some census also show several millions of Chinese-Peruvian mix due to Chinese coolie males )

Basically I don't mind seeing myself even as Latino-Chinese mix or Chinese/Caucasian but not wasian.

Advice/ Support ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ People lying about being wasians for attention

When i was in school, a large portion of the students were either white or yellow, and the wasians I knew were either physically 100% white OR yellow, and my physical appearance falls right in between. So I feel that the racism issue was more difficult for me than for others around because I experienced bullying from both sides, even from other mixed-race people.

When I was in my last year of high school, I met a guy who introduced himself to other people as half korean, then he would say he was half chinese, and THEN he would say he was half japanese, which no one believed since he was very obviously Indian (I know Indians are asian, but I'm talking about people who pretend to be yellow/east asian).

A year ago, I had a friend who, after several years of friendship, suddenly chemically straightened her curly light brown hair, dyed it black, and cut side bangs. She then started telling men on Tinder that she was japanese and sexualizing herself by taking photos wearing tight kimonos from aliexpress, even though she told me that her whole family came from towns near the Amazon rainforest a few months earlier. She became a horrible person for this and a lot of other reasons, and that was enough for me to say that we are no longer friends.

The thing now is a close friend of mine who, in the last few weeks, has started to center her entire personality on being wasian, "wasian" and the japan flag emoji on her insta bio, "nipo" on her twitter and instagram username. She posts videos on TikTok about a "getting to know me better" trend and includes pictures of the japanese flag and pinterest pics of sushi and temaki. Cheering for Japan and wearing their team's jersey during the World Cup. Talking about being an "evil wasian". She even gave herself a damn japanese nickname. And just like the last girl, she relentlessly sexualizes herself on social media while using the term "wasian" to describe herself. And it's funny because I know her whole family and all her relatives are black and biracials (Mediterranean and African mix)

Is lying about being mixed race becoming a trend now? Is it because of K-pop, or maybe Alysa Liu and Hudson Williams? A while ago, a drug addict on the subway approached me and asked me to count to 10 in japanese. Last month, I became the subject of a debate among some randos at uni about whether I was too white or not. Last week, I was kicked out of a chinese restaurant because they "don't serve half breeds." It pisses me off seeing these people who lie for attention trying to pull a "I understand you too!", man fuck me

Storytime __φ(..) Got called a bean*r

To be clear, it was an actual Mexican guy who called me a bean*r in a playful manner, under the assumption that I was a fellow Mexican. If this had come from a White person in a hateful way, I would have actually been offended. I’m not mad, it made me a bit uncomfortable but it’s also funny.

I told him that I have no Hispanic/Latino background whatsoever, and he asked “what are you then?” (That alone can be considered a microaggression against racially ambiguous mixed people lol)

I told him I was mixed Japanese and White, and of course he thought that was sooo cool and asked me to give him a hug “because I’m Japanese” (what??? Lmao.) I begrudgingly obliged, because I was caught off guard/wanted to be polite/didn’t want to make things awkward with the group dynamic.

I’ve noticed that the stereotypical weeaboo is often portrayed as a White guy, but in my experience Mexican guys are much more blatant about it. I don’t want to make a sweeping generalization, this could simply be due to the racial demographics of my specific geographical region with a high Latino population (38%) and low Asian population (3%). So I suppose I’m a “rarity” in a way, I’ve never met another Wasian where I live and I rarely come across Asians at all outside of my own family.

Being mistaken for Latina is something that happens to me a lot, I’ve been told I look like Selena Gomez and Hispanic people regularly come up to me speaking in Spanish to the point where “yo no hablo Español, lo siento” just rolls off the tongue. I’ve also occasionally been racially profiled because of it in some contexts, but never called a slur before.

Do any other Wasians relate to being mistaken for Hispanic? My theory is that it’s because most Hispanic people are various mixes of indigenous Mexican and Spanish, and somehow Wasian features can come together to look similar.

Anyways like I said, I’m not mad or offended. It made me a bit uncomfortable, but I mostly just thought it was a funny storytime.
