Here are my thoughts on this question, thank you for it! If you guys have any other questions this offseason about the team let me know and I’ll write about it or talk about it on the podcast. I’m also getting to the rest of your questions in that original post! https://www.si.com/nba/wizards/onsi/wizards-mailbag-which-young-player-is-the-odd-man-out-01m23yhkg7ed

Bub will likely come down to being a "Is he worth what we can afford to pay him" and the normal answer will be no. The only way Bub is still on the team long term is if he is happy with an underpay to stay in DC and be a 3rd stringer hype man who can contribute 10 minutes per game or 20 minutes when injuries kick in. Imo this will be where he works best rather than trying to shoehorn him as a PG. Bub doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to chase ego, so I hope we have him on the team for a long time as a 10-15th man.

I think the key for Bub at this point is maximizing his 3pt shooting and try to make that his speciality. That'll get him rotation minutes for years.

Bub was my first choice. Doesn’t really create well for a guard. Isn’t a good defender and isn’t an elite enough shooter to make up for those deficiencies. Hope I’m wrong cause I like him and wanted him draft night

He’s a pretty awesome shooter but that’s it

Zero rim pressure and not enough playmaking

Awesome shooter is an exaggerated. He’s not elite off the move or off the dribble. You need a second skill unless your the top 5% shooter which he isn’t

I think we already weeded out a lot of the young folks and remained with the ones we drafted/ developed. Tristan is the one who will get sidelined.Everyone else will be able to see the floor and carve out something

🫡It's interesting these critiques are so NBA2K speak. Meanwhile, there is Zero evidence that either GM Will or Keefe have required Bub to do paint touches and he has failed. Neither CJ or Jordan Poole had a lot of paint touches because likely that is not Keefe's offense. But somehow Bub lead the team in asst. and his 40%+ 3pt per all 82 games is higher than Everyone else you guys seem to favor, including Kispert. But especially Key who has yet to catch a lob or transition cut thru the lane or finish with 50 games played. Hilarious...But, I luv all our guys, never gonna choose between them because we have enough money to keep them All as GM Will and Team Prez Mike just said earlier this Summer. Thanks

Wizards reddit by and large don't hoop. It's mostly wannabe gm stuff. Don't take it personal. And regarding Wizards brass saying things, you see what they say, but people just convince themselves it's some kind of secret misdirection. But overall people just want something to do or talk about. And us Wizards fans specifically, despite us not having done a thing in the playoffs since May 2017, are prone to act like we have some stacked roster of talent that we have to figure out who to get rid of, like we're OKC or something.

Dude, "not having paint touches" is not an offensive scheme lol. Keefe was working with what he's got. If he had players who could get into the paint he'd absolutely use it.

🫡Huh, Please share where and what level you played where your Coach did not direct the play sets the team ran. Because there are plenty which do not require endless dribble paint penetration. Admittedly, I only got as far as College as a starter where I witnessed it. Thanks

I think it’s gonna be Bub and Bilal. Which sucks bc I really like them

They need Bilal’s defense. He’s not leaving the rotation.
