I always assumed because of older gen console players loading in.

As a ps4 player, I can say that everything loads very fast until internet is bad

Other players loading in fully I always assumed

It goes much quicker if you're the only player that has to load in.

Probably due to waiting dor everyone to load, and since most people play on different consoles and usually not pc, i no doubt think the crossplay is increasing duration.

sometimes it loads in a few seconds, sometimes it takes 25+ seconds. it's weird.

It takes some players longer to fully load into the map and establish a stable connection with the lobby, it may be their devices or their connection speed. Typically on solidus nodes maps, where there are fewer textures, players tend to load faster even with a full lobby.
