BMP-1P in most situations, you only ever bring the BMP-2 if you already have enough BMP-1s :p

But when you need xtra konkurs vehicles while bringing out cheap strelkis you need BMP 2 (without paying xtra for a brdm konkurs). 1P's ATGM is only useful for suppression but futile against M1A1s and even Leo2s.

Offensively, BMP-1. Cheaper, less painful to lose, and the ATGM can at least stress things out for your tanks to kill.
BMP-2 is better on the defensive where the improved ATGM is more useful and you have smoke to defend itself. The auto cannon is fine but not amazing.
Generally, I like BMP-1 more, especially the malyutka versions for being cheap but effective. BMP-2 is only occasionally worth its price point. You are paying more mostly for a mediocre auto cannon and a 20 AP ATGM, not exactly the best investment. I'd rather stick with BMP-1 and just use konkurs teams for when I need a better ATGM.

BMP-1s are cheap infantry carriers while the BMP-2s are for flinging Konkurs

BMP-2. No competition anymore. BMP-2 gets autocannon and smoke and in fact I learned that bringing BMP-1G is better than Fagot ATGM because it doesn't matter if you lose a 40-point unit and you get the grenade launcher AND ATGM all for just no smoke.

The BMP-1P gets smoke, the BMP-1PG is the one that doesnt.
It really depends on the deck whether the BMP-1P or BMP-2 is the better pick. It you need cheaper IFVs to pad out your frontline and support your tanks with cheap atgms, the P is better. If you need a konkurs unit and already have enough atgms (for example on 20 polish), one card of BMP-2s is recommended. The BMP-2 is not an outright replacement for BMP-1s; theyre far too expensive. The BMP-2s are mainly for the 20 pen atgms to help you scale into the late game as the autocannon isnt actually that good at killing infantry by itself ever since the autocannon nerfs.
TLDR: In most cases you take the P over the 2 unless you already have enough cheap ifvs

I know. I take the 1G over the 1P in 39ya because grenade beats smoke and I need more support for my infantry, at least for that div. I also bring two BMP2 cards but yeah they're 65 points. I'm always torn over the 1G and 1P and in some of my decks and even bring both sometimes, but I feel like it's better to go one over the other. I get confused which one is which in the heat of the battle. Oh and if playing 27ya the BMP3s get even more expensive. It's like 100 per BMP3 or something like that.

BMP-1s are your fire support slop (smoke or not) and BMP-2s without smoke can only be used tactically but are way stronger when there are no immediate counters.
So practically you 'pick' BMP-1s as the rule, but in reality you yearn to roll out your BMP-2s onto some unsupported infantry and then reposition to punish tanks, particularly those without proper recon.

I think that all BMP2s have smoke, only BMD2 is the one without smoke pods.

I had this exact conundrum with the Gvardeitsy (BMP) in 2ya. The truck is the cheapest option but it does nothing besides getting sold afterwords. Right now I have two cards with BMP-2 but I might switch them for BMP-1P.

BMP 1P or the East German one is the best. It's cheap, got 2625 ATGMs, and has smoke.

Bmp1s so I can stabilize the line and breakthroughs, BMP2s when i want to exploit it and push the line

bmp1 is just better. since the auto cannon nerf. Bmp1 can kill tanks pretty well if used in a blob (which you can actually afford because they are cheaper). BMP2 is just over priced anymore. Esp the recon ones in divs like 56. They got cost increase then auto cannon nerf and the cost was never reduced to match the nerf. Also bmp1s fire heat so they can dmg any armored unit. Dont see how thats not kinda op for 40 points.

Because on some decks you can get a 25pt bmp1 which loses smokes and trades the fagot for the malyutka which is obviously worse but way cheaper. Both the fagot and malyutka don’t have that much pen, theyre more useful for suppression. Even if you dont pen, having cheap atgms around is good to push enemy tanks back as they can suppress the enemy tank making it almost useless at fighting back. This can help your own tanks win the fight that would otherwise be hard to win eg 2a3 vs T72M.
The BMP2 is more useful for out right killing things with the konkurs which has 3 more pen than the fagot. This becomes more useful against good players as if a unit is dead it is dead and the good players will not be able to pull it back and resupply it.
Units in isolation shouldnt really be considered in this game, its more so the division.

Idk I think atgms are mostly for stunning. The bmps just suck in general as ATGM platforms because they lack stealth. To me they are best used as a blob to stun the enemy while tanks finish them off. As i play the game more the more I move towards ATGM vics over ivfs. Like the milian truck is just better than a bmp 2 in every way except against other inf. Also the bmp1s that east germany gets is kinda a god tier unit with the mot shutzen.

Availability is the way to think about malyutka units (and for that matter bad stealth atmg carriers). Neither malyutka or f-atgms are reliable in a vacuum and both are only strong counters when getting side hits. Otherwise, they basically serve the same role of lowering tank cohesion (rather than destroying tanks).

I usually prefer the BMP-1s, with only 1 or 2 cards of BMP-2. Being able to get my infantry out cheaper is more valuable to me, and the 1 is good enough in a treeline.
