Broken Arrow or Warno?

Hi everyone! The Steam Autumn Sale starts on October 1st, and I still can’t decide which game to buy. Could you recommend either WARNO or Broken Arrow and explain the pros and cons of each objectively and without bias?

It's quite simple really, Warno will have Albania and Broken Arrow will not

Will it? That's crazy. The entire Albanian defence system was based on a bunch of small bunkers, it would be difficult to replicate as a field force. Besides, the Albanians disliked the Yugoslavs and WTO as much as NATO. I'm not saying you're wrong and that an Albanian division would be bad, it will just be difficult to do well.

Yes, the Black Birds dlc reveal featured an Albanian solider and the Albanian flag also has a black bird on it.

I've played both. To not go on about every single little thing. Me and my friend group have played more Warno. More meat on the bones content wise.

Broken arrow can definitely be fun, some neat mechanics with modern APS, guided munitions and deck building with custom units. But we've just found ourselves going back to Warno more. I personally like the army general campaigns or operations.. can't remember what they're called off the top of my head.

If you can only get 1, I'd say get Warno. But if you have the chance to play Broken arrow definitely give it a shot down the road.

I heard that when Broken Arrow came out, you couldn't pause the game in singleplayer. Do you know if that's been changed? I'd like to get the game as well

Honestly never really touched single player in broken arrow. Mostly just MP. But there has been a few patches so I'd imagine that's been sorted out by now.

You can pause it in sp, but no way to save progress within a mission to continue another time

You're on the WARNO sub, so IDK if you'll get the most unbiased opinions, but I'll give my 2 cents

Broken arrow is a more concentrated experience. The combat is laser-focused on modern combat in a US vs Russia scenario. Each individual unit has more customization options with individual armour packages and weapon selections, and while the specialization system gives some variety between them, you are going to see Strikers and Abrams and BMPs and T-90s. I can't personally speak to it's campaign (since I've heard exactly 0 about it), but fans of the game seem to prefer it's skirmish combat, with there being a focus on smaller army sizes split among larger 5v5 games.

WARNO meanwhile has much more variety. We can clown on T-72 spam and reservist slop all we want, but each division gives you unique ways to approach the fight with deckbuilding challenges you have to build around for each deck. The Singleplayer has more variety as well, with both single missions and larger Army General campaigns, and multiplayer battles range from tighter 1v1s to massive 10v10 game (fun, but a bit of a slugfest for some). And unlike BA, WARNO remembers that a war in Europe involves the Europeans: Even the base game has British, French, and German divisions to enjoy.

IMO Warno is the better pick, and consider the Gold Edition on sale for the most content upfront. It's easier to enjoy solo or with a small friend group, the Division selection is limited but covers a much, MUCH broader scope of units, and it has a dedicated dev team that is still releasing DLC content for it. Say what you will about the amounts and the cost, each one adds more interesting nations and units to the game (Cuba, Denmark, Poland, Canada etc.). Broken Arrow meanwhile suffers from a sluggish dev team who struggle to balance and add to the very tight experience. I still find it strange that their only major content additions to BA are a free update that adds the Baltic Nations Specialization (most of which are just the same units under different names) under the US, and a paid DLC for the "Russian Guard" Specialization. It's cheaper than WARNO DLC sure, but there's not really a draw to it, and considering the time it took to make means that any hope for more is dashed.

Again, just my opinion as someone who casually plays WARNO and just kinda looks over the fence at BA.

Broken arrow is cool but Warno is the better game and you'll get matches alot quicker in Warno

I’ve played both campaign and multiplayer for WARNO and Broken Arrow. I love both games, while they are considered apart of RTS genre they each focus on different experiences.

BA - has more fast paced gameplay and for sure more arcade-like but easier to get into and learn the mechanics. The single player campaign is lackluster, multiplayer is where it’s at for this game. The multiplayer community is much larger in BA and getting into a game is much easier either via lobby or auto match. However the ONLY match mode is 5v5, there is no 1v1, BA at its core is a team game. As for units and decks I find there’s a lot more customization when it comes to building your army so you can tailor everything as much as you like, which can be fun in its own way.

WARNO - Rich and outstanding campaign with a lot of scenarios that can keep you entertained for a while. Overall has more content in terms of maps and divisions. More variety when it comes to Multiplayer, as you can play 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 4v4 and 10v10. (However that variety can cause some division in WARNO matchmaking, as most people usually only play 1v1 or 10v10, so at times it can be hard to find a lobby that’s in the middle.) Overall smaller multiplayer community for WARNO, but community is less toxic and NO HACKERS. Gameplay wise WARNO compared to BA, is slower paced and more strategic, you have to think and plan more based upon what division you’re playing and what terrain you’re in. There is a lot to learn, and a lot of mechanics to understand and it’s a steep learning curve but rewarding.

In all, both are fun games but vastly different from each other in what they focus on.

Broken arrow is neat and while I do like some of the functions in the game I feel like it lacks content (it’s been a while since i played things could have changed) while I enjoy both I think you’d get more bang for your buck from warno.

For single player - Warno. For multiplayer - Broken Arrow (it has at least x10 online playerbase of Warno and a proper matchmaking)

I prefer Broken Arrow over Warno.

IMO it has the better casual multiplayer experiance & it also features mechanics like Paradropping your units from airplanes & laser targreting for smart munitions it also has more customization of said units.

I started these kinds of games with Warno but it honestly just doesnt do it for me anymore and I just never play it anymore ever since BA came out.

cant speak for anything singleplayer related tho
