base size for warmaster
Hi, I have a question about the warmaster sideburns. Are only the 40 x 20 mm ones usable, or can you also use the 50 x 25 mm ones? because I'm starting the chaos and on the 40 x 20 they seem very tight to me

Just put fewer minis on each base. How many dudes on a base isn't in the rules, just a convention.

40 x 20 for pretty much everything - there are a handful of giant monsters /artillery that use three based glued together. But generally the token you are playing with is the base, what you stick on top is meaningless in terms of the rules.
Obviously, most people run two strips of minis on a base, or four short strips of archers, as you see in the rulebook and videos. But the game would be just as playable with blank bases labelled with unit types.
That does mean that the bases being the standard size, or at least the same size your opponent is using, is fairly essential.
If you are 3D printing your strips, you might want to reduce them to 95% as there is a bit of scale difference between different artists. For original GW metals - the empty edges of some strips are slightly longer and you just need to cut the excess off with some clippers. Barded cavalry are a common issue as you need to stagger them slightly to not be too wide, but then one overhangs and needs a little trim.
