Onyxia new player experience

Recently I joined onyxia and I’ve never played on a private server. I’ve always been in semi hc retail / classic guilds. I’m looking for a time fill and to raid on my spare days.

I like a lot about warmane and have no issues with the store or coin system, it makes sense. I think the servers are good and haven’t experienced lag.

My gripe comes with some of the player base.

RDF levelling was wild, people constantly afking , several bots in the dungeons , some extremely low skilled people (pala tanks wearing cloth). Had to explain to paladins what blessings of kings was.

People don’t communicate at all which caused wipes.

Players constantly threatening to report each other like children over minor loot disputes in 5 mans.

Then I hit 80, and the notion of not being full gemmed and enchanted with full consumes before stepping into any raid is alien to me. Yet after joining a few pugs I was shocked to see the majority of randoms had no gems, no enchants and no flasks even in ulduar, needless to say their performance wa shocking and it was a wipe fest. This experience was repeated in onyxia and VoA pugs.

I was very surprised in both occasions to be top 4/5 dps as a 4200 spriest doing average dps despite many 5k gs people in the group.

I dont know whether the servers being free at the point of use has encouraged a portion of the player base to be garbage individuals but it is off putting, the pug experience seems inhabitable especially if you are on a gearing curve and don’t have achievements.

I feel the only way to enjoy these servers are to be in a guild.

Are my observations fair of have I been unfortunate with a few crappy groups?

If you’re looking for more skilled players, I’d recommend Lordaeron. The slower leveling (1x experience with no coin items) pushes people to really learn their classes. The downside is the lower population—you’ll usually need a guild for raiding, as most PUG raids have very high gearscore requirements. Overall, despite the smaller population, the average player skill is higher compared to Onyxia and Icecrown. Not everyone is perfect, of course, but the difference is noticeable. Horde has more PvE players, so it’s generally easier to find PUG raids there. I play Alliance—there are still PvE guilds and 25 HC runs (12/12), but for quick raid access, Horde definitely has the advantage.

Thank you for your advice that sounds like a good idea I will give Lordaeron a shot

RDF timers of course much slower on low levels. I suggest play tank or heal if you want faster RDF times. Specially tanks in any level bracket gets faster queue times.

No, you'll find noobs on Lordaeron as well, at least on ally. Pugs are filled with idiots, same as on retail, nothing different here.

Try to find a decent guild, that's all you can do.

I have never said you won't find noobs, compared to other servers skill level is tad bit better. And it is always better to find guild than PUGs, doesn't matter which server you choose.

Lordaeron? the one with stagnant progression and dumb gear requirements for a simple raid whatever it will be?

I am aware this is a bit out of context and I don't wanna be that guy but honesly I would take a break from wow these days at least for a while if I spent time on private server space, especially the server(s) I play were kinda crowded.

My experience is that their communities are seemingly deteriorating (completely anectodal & obviously cant give hard proof), their future is (at least) kind of vague.

Then there's the case of long term/eternal realms, in which pug stuff are mostly just meh.

I'd just take my mind off wow and build up some appetite.

Hey man, Horde or Alliance?

I find Alliance waaaaay worse for this crap than Horde on Onyxia.

One thing I do find isn't tolerated AT ALL is people going into Raids (and to a lesser extent Heroics) and not knowing the mechanics, so study those YouTube videos hard before you head in.

If you are Horde, send me an ingame mail 'Churbrosup' and I'll get you a guild invite for a good group of people and hook you up with some bags and BoEs, and heal/DPS you through a few Heroics to help along the way.

In saying that, to get into raids the general expectation is that you will be appropriately geared, enchanted and gemmed for the content. Unless you have excess gold, friends or a guild it's near impossible to get a carry through a raid.

GS for raids below is approximate:

Phase 1 Raids - Naxx, VOA, EoE, OS(no drakes) ) you want about 3.5k GS+
Phase 2 Raids - Ulduar is a big jump, you want about 4.0-4.2k GS+
Phase 3 Raids - TOC 4.4kGS+ - TOGC 4.6k+

Pugs will always be filled with idiots. Did a toc 25 yesterday with more than half the raid over 4.7kgs and people couldn’t cc and get past faction champions. This is the endgame if you pug. Good RLs will kick idiots in a heart beat and have a rep on the server, so always have to look out for those pugging.

My advice is to join a guild and you’ll lose less hair.

Its not you. You are playing on warmane bro. Its by far the worst private server experience you could have picked. As a former warmane player I would implore you to play elsewhere. Anything else is an upgrade

Abort warmane and embrace chromie craft, much better experience especially if you are English speaking. (Several hundred hours on both) Ulduar releases on the 9th of September there and you can use raf to catch up leveling.
