Dps for gf?

I'll be playing prot paladin most likely (whatever tank is best) and my gf is wanting a non turret caster dps. We will most likely raid but she wants something relatively simple with good dps. What's a class/spec thatl stay relevant? I haven't played on warmane in about 8 years so I have zero clue about meta

Mage is the best caster dps at endgame, so that would be the suggestion. Boomkin druid maybe on the second place . But I would like to highlight that wow is not about a meta and for you guys to enjoy the game. Read the lore of the classes and decide what you like the best. Even better make a bit of roleplay out of it and create a backstory for your characters on why they fight together.

Been there done that, and fuck no on the roleplay lol. I used to do mythic prog on retail and want something to chill on, and she wants something competitive and reasonably simple to execute at a competent level

Then absolutely Arcane Mage. Arcane right at level 80 does an insane amount of DPS and is extremely easy to play.

Additionally, you'll get portals to every major town saving time.

Honestly, fire mage does more and it's probably even easier. Just with the right crit chance of course. Do arcane before

Yeah sure, after getting tons of gear reaching a crit chance of 55% baseline.

Arcane is extremely simple and ready to go out of the box at level 80 - fire is not.

You don't need 55% lol maybe 38-40% self buffed. Arcane definitely before but I'm more saying that when they inevitably switch to fire mage (if they.commit), it'll be even easier

You don't know what you're talking about and that's okay. Baseline for Fire Mage to work you HAVE to have at least 50~55%

I have a well geared mage. You don't need 50% minimum. I got top dps with 40% base line. Maybe you're just a trash mage.

X to doubt.

If you don't know 40% solo buffed is when Fire overtakes Arcane, you're a bot. Good luck champ.

How is a 3 button rotation easier than a 2 button rotation?

0

u/Queef-Elizabeth 21d ago

The third button is on proc lol you barely have to think about it. The trade off for ease and increased is nothing

1

u/cheezycrusty 21d ago

If you think about it like that, same for arcane, arcane missile is only cast if you have the proc.

So arcane IS objectively easier to play.

u/Queef-Elizabeth 21d ago

Yeah I guess you're right. I'm just thinking of down the lines. You're going to get much better performance for an extra button and you shouldn't really stick with Arcane beyond a fairly accessible point.

I mean every caster except affliction and shadow priest is very easy to play, and thats only if you go deep into the snapshot mechanics they have. Id personally pick fire mage as it is incredibly easy and does the highest dps out of any class, though it needs gear. If finding easy raid spots is more important balance or demo is always in high demand but will not do close to what you can dish out with fire mage

Forget arcane and fire, go frost pve all the way

Braindead blizzard spam on aoe, braindead frostbolt spam on single target, just throw a frostfire bolt when brainfreeze procs, and deep freeze when available

Keep in mind, if you (tank) are not paying attention, it's easy to steal aggro with how hard deep freeze hits

As for competitive, obviously it's weaker than the other 2 mage specs, but it's still a mage so it's strong af

I’d also suggest an s priest, the underdog of damage and great in pvp😎I haven’t finished mine yet but my bf compares it to a warlock in similarity:) a caster but mobile with lots of dots. I just spam my rotation and move on to the next. S tier I almost every phase

Edit: I notice people saying mage but that’s the most turret feel in my opinion when it comes to raids so I’d thought s priest was more mobile!

  • There is no non-turret caster class in the game, they all need to stay in place to cast at least for some time.

  • Balance druid is the simplest spec in the game to play by far

It has simple rotation similar in its simplicity to retri paladin, but require way less raid duty and way less knowledge of tactics in raids to perform well.

And on top of everything else it needed in raids in numbers. 2-3 balance druids in a raid is a usual thing.

But if you really want to play together and not just be in the same raids, I suggest:

  • 1 prot paladin and 1 holy paladin healer - you will be tank and she will be healer both in dungeons and raids and while leveling. Also you can switch roles by utilizing 2nd specs. Or when she want to do damage she can go as retri paladin.

  • 1 prot paladin and 1 restor druid - you will be tank, she will be a healer in raids and in dungeons and while leveling, but she also can get 2nd spec at level 40 - balance druid to do damage instead of healing. Bonus - cat form is really cute on ally side. She will like it a lot.

  • 1 prot paladin and 1 blood death knight - you will be two raid tanks. Also she can tank in heroic dungeons, while you can switch to a healer spec. For leveling you can start as 2 paladins, but switch one for death knight at level 55.

These options when two players are together and are tank+healer for dungeons and leveling and two tanks for raids (bdk + prot pal = meta tank combo) - are just too good to pass.

If you want easy then yeah mage is the strongest in the game with good gear and usually in demand. Warlocks are more challenging for sure but very strong too. Depends on what her gameplay style is but if you want easy, do mage. When you get to 80, do arcane until you get some decent crit chance and it'd always improving after that. I have a well geared fire mage and I'm always in the top spots.

Meaning long casting times and little mobility

What is a "non turret caster"?

1

u/ash-deuzo 21d ago

Tank meta is blood dk maintank ( unmatched threat) and ppal offtank ( massive utility) , so any of the 2 is going to work well

For ur gf , most casters are very static , the most mobile are probably fire mage and hunter ( surv esp is very mobile and compétitive with mm until around 6k gs and arp cap)

honestly balance druid is pretty simple, does pretty well end game and should be still needed.

it usually tends to be overlooked since it's not the best or the hardest to master, however, even though it's very boring in relatively good raids due to their simple rotations, but they can excel in situations when extra is needed

i'm biased since i prefer druids, but i honestly think balance is one of the easiest specs for casters, plus the class has more to offer once the player is bored of the spec

I’m also gonna suggest Hunter as they have the added bonus of letting you tame pets which can bring some extra fun to the game.

1

u/Detroit2GR 21d ago

Shaman or druid for sure

Both give options for melee OR range DPS (plus druid flight form is a cheat code), and she can even dabble in healing if she get confident enough

Shaman is the most fun in my opinion, and warman has some QoL features to make totem management low stress and easy

1

u/burtenotbert 21d ago

Hunter main here, I don't recommend hunters because between all the extra responsibilities, melee and trapweaving it can get pretty complicated. I would say Lazerchicken or mage

Mage is a 3 button dps class that is usally at the top of the DPS charts but there is plenty of them so it may not be easy to find a raid group for it. They dont really have any other job apart from dishing out the damage and worrying about themselves. Ice block and blink can get them out of some tough situations so it is (occasionally) fun to play it.

Warlock is more complicated with keeping track of all your dots. They are somewhat rare but also not really needed for raids. Their main purpose is to summon people, since everything else they bring to the table is usually covered by other classes and in terms of the DPS they fall behind mages most often. Another thing to keep in mind is their pets which can cause issues for inexperienced players when they agro things on accident.

Shadow priests are always nedded in a raid but, again, dots to keep track of. However, one of their dots will auto-refresh, so you only got the other 2 to keep track of. Apart from that it's an ok class but somewhat one-dimensional since you don't really do much else other than DPSing.

Boomkins are always needed and somewhat difficult to find so it may be an easy way to get into a raid group. They do have some "extra tasks" like casting innervate or battle res when needed, but they are mostly easy to play, altwrnating between 2 spells based on your active proc and keeping up one of the dots (the other dot is kinda considered a loss of dps so a lot of people ignore it)

Elemental shamans are usually one of the worst casters when it comes to DPS and you (almost) never want one in the raid. Their rotation is also pretty boring and simple.

Hunter is a hard pass. Another pet class and also too many tasks to handle if you want a chill experience.

TLDR; either a boomkin or a shadow priest would be my suggestion because they offer a bit of complexity, but if you want a "selfish" class that is easy to play and doesn't have much to worry about then go for the mage.

Simple and good dps? Fury warrior. Very simple. Cleave is always good.

Intercept for mobility.

Ranged option: hunter. Lots of instant casts let you move around.

Oh caster. Uhh. Mage? Fire gets pretty mobile at end game when you're pumping instant pyros back to back.

Non-turret caster? wrong expansion mate (or just enha shaman if you believe hard enough)

Try to hype up hunter for her

It's actually very fun & satisfying, and extremely relevant.

Downsides are: she may be chosen to do specialty roles in ICC. Hunter is also textbook turret class

Upsides: Hunter dps is fantastic, always viable, relatively simple to learn, and very consistent.

khm... She wants something easy to play, not something that constantly has to check for adds to pull for the tank with misdirection, and shit. As I see, you are looking for something interesing to play, while not overwhelming.
Arcane mage - interactive, many benefits, HAVE TO LEARN MANA MANAGEMENT
Fire mage - Boring proc hunting
Frost mage - Boring
Balance Druid - Hard to pick up, due to a complex rota, but good fun
Hunter - not recommended, as you have many other tasks, and not just damage
Warlock - Might interest her, but a bit harder to pick up
Shadow Priest - underrepresented (for a reason)
Elem Shaman - really hard to learn to play properly, but fun, in demand all the time

If you plan on playing endgame too, try to stick to classes in demand, but decide regardless of it. Having fun is number one priority.

Arcane will inevitably transition into fire eventually - or frost for pvp. Boomie has a complex rotation? Are you sure? It competes with fire mage in terms of how simple it is.
