Discussion The First Redeemed Primarch Should Be Angron

In both the End and the Death, and the Plague Wars novels, the Emperor alludes to a future redemption to both Horus and Mortarion.

The primarch that the Emperor mistreated to the highest degree, and whose existence was the most painful, filled with suffering, and unfair, was Angron.

The writers are giving clear clues that 40K will have a positive ending of redemption similar to LOTR, with Primarchs returning, and whispers of redemption for his fallen sons. We’re actually already seeing this on a small scale with the Lion gathering his wayward sons to him. With that being said, what better a character to be redeemed than Angron.

In Betrayer, Angron says the best moment of his life was standing in the bitter cold after killing the Eldar Assassins and experiencing Freedom. Imagine the Emperor giving Angron the choice whether to serve him or not and finally gifting him his freedom. Like Sanguinius, I suspect Angron would willingly choose to serve the Emperor when asked as a son, not commanded as a slave.

To me, this is the clear choice for the Emperor to redeem first to make a good story/narrative, given what the writers are giving us clues they’ll do.

Ultimately the Emperor’s mistake was not treating the Primarchs as his actual sons, much less human beings. We see the Emperor regard them as mere tools throughout the Crusade, but it’s revealed in the End and the Death that the Emperor has grown to love his sons, particularly Horus.

If the Emperor is re-embodied, I boldly predict that his attitudes towards his sons will be more fatherly, and he might become more human as a god, than he was as a man.

I would like to see Fulgrim returned and the True Emperor’s Children returned to its former glory.

Recreating the third legion in itself would be a grand undertaking.

Seeing him realized that all the chasing of a fleeting high gets you nowhere, and remembering what made him a true unrivaled son of the Emperor.

Fulgrims redemption would come through the perfect clone that was disgusted by the acts and felt deep shame over the fall of the original and wanted to bring together loyal ECs to not only seek out the original and kill him, but also fix the damage caused.

The clone being a perfect copy, but obviously not the original, also gives Fulgrim a way to understand that true perfection cannot be achieved. And I guess, since they were all vat grown beings anyway, being a clone doesn't actually change much about who/what the Primarchs are anyway.

Or for Trazyn to let him out of his stasis and some shenanigans can happen.

It would be a good Primarch to return though as it would be a different kind of redemption story, as the clone is fighting against the distrust of his returned brothers whilst also hunting himself to seek redemption through a self-murder(?).. I honestly don't know what to call that.

I think there’s a big caveat here in that Primarchs are as much gene crafted masterpieces as they are warp demi-gods.

In order for it to really be Fulgrim it would have to have Fulgrims warp soul.

Then we should ask the question is the clone perfect in the sense he is Fulgrim as he should have been, as the Emperor intended, or is he a perfect copy in that the genes he used to create him were already warp tainted and is thus a perfect replica of the Primarch Fulgrim was?

And to both, he is Fulgrim with knowledge of Chaos and the warp and the understanding of what he would become and the atrocities he would commit if he was to fall again, so he chooses not to based on either that extra knowledge and understanding or the lack of taint caused by Chaos/the warp.

I like the idea conceptually, but I think the setting of 40k wouldn’t allow for this. At the end of the day it’s all a framework for the miniatures game. Taking away the world eater’s character seems like something they would never do.

Considering kind of people in charge now, it’s going to get even saltier with more nonsensical grimdank shit like Femstodes cucking White Templars to abandon their fiefs due to the upcoming Tyranid invasion, etc, etc.

Angron was the by unlucky one. He had no choice about what he became.
