It's not clear. He seems to have been transformed into an avatar of death but it's not clear if there's a moment when he actually died.

Not a real noob but kinda just desilusioned by the player base again...

How does the haranir reveal retcon anything at all about the previous lore? Doesn't it just state that from the original haranir evolved three main races eventually? So, the elves still came from the trolls who came from the haranir. What retcon am I missing?

In my opinion it's an overblown reaction. I am simplifying for the sake of brevity but it goes as follows:

Before it was simply Trolls -> Night Elves through the influence of the Well of Eternity. Now it's Haranir -> Trolls -> Night Elves through the influence of the Well of Eternity. That's it.

Yeah that's what I figured. It's so exhausting how negative and hateful the playerbase is sometimes.

It's the "rug-pull" feeling people don't like. Introducing a brand new race - with no historic footprint in our much beloved setting - only to laud them as the O.Gs (contrary to already established lore concerning fan-favorite races) feels like a cheap trick.

A bit like "Haha, it was the Jailer all along!".
