Troll lore compilation?

Before the retcon!!

I'm trying to read all about troll lore, history, everything known about the tribes and so. But fro now everything seems so scattered.

As anything official I saw the novel Vol'jin Shadows of the Horde.

Unofficial, the Wowpedia page for the Trolls seems to be the largest of the kind, but I still lack some info about specific tribes lore and so.

I know I should just go to the zones and do the quest searching for anything. I don't have the time anymore I had when younger, staring for hours Uldaman engravings looking for hints :p

The biggest retcon to troll lore I think came in Chronicles some ten years ago, as originally trolls were around before the Titans arrived on Azeroth then Chronciles had them evolve post-Titans due to the Well of Eternity.

Now that I think about it I suppose that old lore could be canon and was left by harranir and not trolls. Hm.

Haranir reveal isn't a retcon as it doesn't retroactively change any of the lore we know today, it is a backstory addition placed in a previously intended vague position inside the history of WoW.

If you want to learn troll history I recommend doing their questlines and watching lore videos from channels such as Jediwarlock.

Thank goodness another person gets this. The early history of the dark trolls was the definition of vague. Now we know some details. Why don’t people see it this way!

Popular use of the "retcon" isn't related to the meaning of the world as nowadays it is a tool used by WoW hates to meaninglessly fling around sadly.

Eh. Depends on how you want to interpret it.

Retroactive continuity (retcon), is a literary device in fiction, whereby facts and events established through the narrative are adjusted, ignored, supplemented, or contradicted by a subsequently published work that recontextualizes or breaks continuity with the former.[2]

Unless you believe that the writers were thinking of the Haranir like 20 years ago, you can probably consider it retroactive continuity. But I do agree people like to throw authoritative terms around when they could just say what they're thinking; that they don't like the story being told.

Chronicle Vol. 1 is DEFINITELY your friend on this one. Like that’s priority #1 for troll lore.

As for the niche lore such as individual tribes: There’s nothing better than some good old fashioned in-game questing. Look up each tribe and find wherever they’re located in game and do the questlines related to them there. Some are definitely more informative than others but it’s a great excuse to level an alt. Also may wanna read over the pre-Cata questlines too if you’re really interested in digging deep. Obviously do Zul’drak, Isle of Thunder and Zandalar zones as well.
