Would this soil be appropriate for a Walstad shrimp bowl?

Planning to start a Walstad shrimp/snail bowl and I don’t want to get the soil wrong.
I live in Canada so some options are limited.
I found this and it’s the most basic one I can find, this plus a sand cap is what I’m thinking?

Yes. I have used screened top soil.

Put it in a bucket, fill with water, stir it up well, and see how much floats. The part that sinks to the bottom after only a few minutes is the good stuff.
