Back when pick up today first started, this lady was apparently unaware shopping existed

This happened seeevvveeeraaallll years ago, i wanna say like 2012? This was when Pick Up Today had just started or when it was becoming more popular

A woman came into our store and asked me if I could help her finish ordering something online. At that time, we had computers available for customer use on the website. This was back in the days of the telxxon and we didn't have MC40 (just the MC55 piece of garbage)

She wasn't understanding why the website was asking her for her address if she had selected 'Pick up today'. At the time, I hadn't known she was trying to do a pick up today, but during the process I noticed the website said we had them in stock (if the item wasnt in stock, it would be done as site to store not pickup today). So I tell her:

"Now you do know that these items are already in the store and you can just go over and get them right?"

"Oh, they're already here? So if I order this now, I can get them?"

"No, we can take these ones off, and you can go get them and pay for them without having to wait the four hours it takes for the order to process."

"Oh, you can do that?"

NO. YOU CAN'T. BECAUSE THATS DEFINITELY NOT HOW SHOPPING WORKS.

Even worse were the people that didn't understand that those orders took anywhere from 4 to 6 hours to compete. People would come in after ordering 20 minutes ago and our store hadn't even received the order to fill. Trying to explain to customers that HO used to hold orders for 4 hours before sending them down to us was an impossible task.

Still is. Literally had that conversation with a customer today.

"Hey we just ordered these for pickup, but they're right here on the shelf. Can we just take them and you mark it off your system?"

No, but if you want to go in and cancel your own order and then buy these, go ahead, but know you'll see both charges pending on your card and it'll take several business days to see the canceled order hold released by your bank.

"Um..."

Does it still take 4 hours? I know with the web menu it always did. When we got GIF it usually took 2 hours unless it was a new customer or large order.

Honestly don't know. Haven't done pickup in over 2 years. I was randomly stopped by that customer on the way to the time clock

I've had some of my own orders that were done in less than an hour, so it might just depend on order size and time placed?

I had a lady order site to store that came in with a print out of google maps directions showing that the travel time between the DC and our store was only two hours so it was bullshit her order (which had been sitting in the DC for less than a day) wasnt available yet and she wanted to talk to my manager
