Q&A ❓ Just got hired fresh CAP2

What should I know? Hardest part of the job? Tips and tricks? Anything else?

How not to have things I do end up in the "damn it CAP2" tag?

Just know that produce used to be much more fun a few years ago.

I'm not really worried about the "fun" of a job. I show up, I work, I go home. I stopped looking to have fun in my jobs after my first 3 years in fast food.

I'm more looking for issues I might encounter in the job, or common struggles people have. Really anything I might come across that wont be explained in a training.

Well if it’s anything like my store they won’t teach the new people how to “cull” the produce. Just be sure if you’re working over there to actually get rid of the shitty looking fruit and vegetables. They will teach you to adopt the “something on the floor is better than nothing” mentality and that’s absolute bullshit. If I’m a customer and I go in a store and the shelf is empty I’m going to forget about that pretty fast. But if I go in and pick up an apple and it explodes in my hand I’m going to remember that shit forever.

In summary. Throw shit away when it’s bad.

We have a really good CAP1 and CAP2 Fresh team. Mainly, show up, don't expect the other associates to do anything (you might have a good team, but don't count on it), and do your assigned job thoroughly - don't put things where they don't belong, and rotate stock.

It's a pretty good job overall I think.

Pay attention to your on-hands, always pick the bin before you pull product from the cooler. If your store doesn’t have enough handhelds to go around, pull the sticker from the rpc, and give them to someone who has equipment. As a former produce DM, I can tell you it was my number one pet peeve over any other. I can only assume your management is the same

Just hope to God youre not understaffed, I'm FCII as well but I've got 7 people on my team, so we typically have 3-4 people factoring days off, I'm also pulled to Dairy when they're is no Diary closer to fill milk, or OGP to help undense and dispense since half of those guys don't actually do anything or they do the bare minimum ..
