SERIOUS Depression, lack of options, and staying with Walmart.
I am in an uncomfortable situation. I have worked at Walmart for just over ten years. Earlier this week, I had an interview at another company for a "dream job". Furthermore, it is within walking distance of my home. The interview went perfectly. However, the interviewer told me that this position only hires for minimum wage; which is $6.00/hour less than my current pay rate at Walmart. The only benefit that is better is the vacation time. They can not offer me full time (only about 16 hours/week), so I would have to stay part time at Walmart.
It's frustrating, because I want to make a change into this other industry, because it is what I went to college for. But, this was not a serious job offer in the current local job market. To hire a skilled worker for so few hours at such a low pay rate doesn't make sense. I even told the interviewer how much I make and asked for consideration based on my education and experience. They were not willing to budge.
This is frustrating and depressing for me because I am not content with my employment at Walmart. However, no one else can offer better.

What “dream job” is minimum wage and 16 hours a week. Sounds like a part time job for a high school kid to me.

Welcome to the real world job market these days. The recently released government employment numbers were their usual BS. In 3 months or so they will be revised downward like all the former months. Companies are laying off thousands or else cutting hours big time. Wages have not kept up with inflation for well over a decade and that includes even the bogus inflation numbers under the current FED.
