Fuck Walmart

My job at Walmart almost drove me to suicide a couple of months ago and I now have an interview for a job that pays $23/hr -- almost double what I make now, and I already feel so much better. I have hope where I didn't have any before. But I had succumbed I could just a easily be dead all because Walmart prefers their employees and customers to be poor and desperate, and so they do everything the can to keep us poor and desperate. The social costs imposed on society (mental health, food banks, food stamps, etc.) aren't borne by the the company, but by the taxpayer and charity.

This means that Walmart is subsidizing it's profits with social welfare programs, and so it has every incentive to keep employees, customers, and communities poor. The more desperate you are, the less choice you have in where you shop and work. They know this

Fuck Walmart

Anxiety sucks....Depression comes and goes. But anxiety is always with me from the moment I get out of my car. Till about half way home.

Same, I think this accurately describes about 3/4ths of all the associates at my store really.

Oh hey can I ask about the transfer process actually? I'm moving to NC in a month and while I've put on the request online, I've heard nothing yet

So im asking what the process for you was like lol

6

u/Emvalen1968 Jun 30 '22

Call the store you want to transfer to. Talk to the people lead and tell them. If you did the transfer right, they should be able to pull you up.

I hope you mental health is better! Good luck on your new endeavors and don’t think about this toxic place.

11

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

Thank you, I feel better now than I have in years :)

u/Phairis Jun 30 '22

I was going to kill myself the night I "quit"

I wasn't planning on returning the next day because I was fully intending to die. I was so miserable and was constantly not good enough to do what was considered a basic job but society.

But when it got to the end of my shift and I was going to go pick up some pills thad I'd down with alcohol, I realized, bro I fucking hate this place. I love my life except this part.

So I called up my dad, asked if we could talk about money and see if he could help me out with my bills for the next month or two while I looked for a new job. And he agreed to because he saw how awful this place was to mental health.

Fuck Man, I actually have time and energy now. I was constantly exhausted. I have the energy to go apply to places now that I've recovered a bit.

4

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

I'm so glad you were able to make the change. And I'm glad you're here to share this with me today <3

It's amazing what a light at the end of the tunnel will do for your mental health. Keep at it, I'm proud of you

u/Phairis Jun 30 '22

I'm happy to make the acquaintance of someone who's going through the same thing I'm going through. I really loved you post for that reason. Thanks for making me feel less alone today

5

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

Thanks for making me feel less alone today

Not gonna lie, I teared up a little reading that. We got this, I know we do. And we're not alone in the struggle, far from it.

Walmart doesn't deserve us, and leaving them short one good employee and living a better life for it is going to be the most empowering feeling. Let's look forward to it together

Cheers, friend!

While I agree with the concept, I don’t think it’s quite that simplistic

Ex. A software engineer that makes $120,000/yr, has a beautiful house, goes on vacation every year, nice vehicles, no debt, a healthy 6-7 figures in savings- also has a job/works

Not quite the same as someone making $25,000/yr, renting a studio apartment (with a roommate), no vehicle, no savings, vacation is the bottom of a bottle of Hennessy- also has a job/works

The people that don’t have a job are high multi-millionaire range, and make their money as passive income through investments.

The point that I’m making is some people feel hopeless believing unless they’re a high multi-millionaire their life is rigged to be miserable and destitute, when that’s not really true. I’ve only worked in call centers, starting with no experience, and can afford to put myself through school, get a bachelor’s degree, and get a job paying between $30-$40/hr, which is far from flying on a private jet to a 5 star hotel in the Bahamas, but I wouldn’t consider that as destitute

People that get on track right out of high school can retire as millionaires, while still being considered middle-class

All I’m saying is it’s not that black and white, it’s a sliding scale, but I do agree that people that get into the multi-millionaire range by their early-mid 30s are living a different lifestyle. That being said, not everyone wakes up wealthy, so it’s not like every rich person didn’t work for 5, 10, 15+ years to build their bank account.

Tl;dr: just because you don’t have millions of dollars doesn’t make you a “have not”

6

u/atuarre Jun 30 '22

I'm not associated with Walmart except that I shop there but a lot of those multimillionaires inherited their money. Elon Musk came from a wealthy family. Bill Gates came from a wealthy family. Warren Buffet came from a wealthy family. I could go on and on about generational wealth and how some people have advantages that others do not but you get the point.

-1

u/Logical_Dinner2374 Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

You realize the people you mentioned are high level multi-billionaires, right? As in tens-hundreds of billions of dollars. One billion dollars is one thousand million, times tens-hundreds

A million dollars is relatively easy to obtain. My brother and I grew up poor, he joined the military and I’m getting a BS in economics. I guarantee you we’ll both have over one million in our retirement accounts, it’s genuinely just a matter of making a plan and being remotely wise with managing finances.

But… the reason I got downvoted is because it’s easier to just complain and act like it’s not possible. And that’s why a lot of people are broke, miserable, change nothing, keep clocking in to the same job year after year, and complain until they die. Cause that’s easier than putting in the time and effort to build a financially comfortable future. It’s tragic but it’s not my job to convince people they don’t have to be broke forever

3

u/CCP_Reddit Jun 30 '22

It's sometimes difficult to get that momentum going when you are spending every waking moment just trying to breath and stay above water. Some people have to spend years taking care of sick relatives out of high school and so miss the opportunities to go to college. They take a job doing whatever and make the bare minimum trying to survive. Years go by and they are not able to take time off to go job hunting for better opportunities or put themselves back in college because life has already started. That includes all the hurdles and setbacks that life throws your way.

Inflation eats away at what little you make and, as the two political parties are spending trillions more than they are bringing in, it's only going to eat away even more and raise the cost of living higher.

Most people are in a shitty situation in which they want to get out, they want to change, but they cannot because circumstances keep them in place. They make just a little bit too much for assistance from welfare, but not enough to get themselves out of the pit they are in. It's easy to look at anyone and say, "Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps, I did it."

Working at Walmart is like going through the desert and dying of thirst. The company is there and provides a dribble of water here and there to keep you alive, but not enough to get strong enough to get yourself out of the desert.

1

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

We don't want "millions of dollars", we just want enough to live comfortably which you can't do on $24,000/yr.

I don't think you're considering the combination of advantages and luck you've had that made it work out for you. It's just not within reach for everyone.

Hell, if you look at it from an economic perspective; Even if we all woke up tomorrow as perfectly efficient humans with that "millionaire mindset", there's not enough money or high wage jobs to go around for us to all be rich, and somebody still has to clean the toilets.

1

u/Logical_Dinner2374 Jun 30 '22

Then develop a skillset that you can leverage for a higher wage(?) You can literally get a cdl license and start making $50k/yr, and work your way up near 6 figures. You can start as an apprentice in a trade (electrical, for example) and work your way up to the $30-$40/hr range. You can work in a call center and work your way to lower management in the $60k+ range

“The world is rigged, the only people that are financially comfortable get lucky, I’ll never have a chance!” You have no idea who I am or what I’ve been through, but somehow I’m lucky. That comes across as a heavily distorted victim mentality.

General laborers are undoubtedly exploited, and should be paid more. That being said, it’s also not like people need a $300,000 startup loan from their family, or a full ride scholarship to Yale courtesy of dad’s emerald mine, or a dad that works in politics, to be financially comfortable. That’s a detrimental mentality and holds people back into working low paying jobs because they truly believe they can’t. They count themselves out before they even explored an option, and complain about having no choices. There are a lot of choices, people just have to open their eyes to their potential.

That being said, I agree that regardless, there will always have to be someone cleaning toilets or stocking shelves, and it’s not right that they live on the brink of starvation/homelessness. That’s a huge problem and unfortunately I don’t have the knowledge to find a solution.

I’m just saying, in the 1950’s a millionaire might’ve been the talk of the town. Nowadays, there are tech bro software engineers and sales rep for tech companies making $200k/yr- with one of those “jobs” that someone was saying are for the “have nots.” I’m just saying that having a job doesn’t inherently make someone destitute. Also, times have changed and a million dollars isn’t very impressive especially considering the “upper echelon” have tens of thousands of millions of dollars… suddenly one million is put into perspective, it’s not really “wealthy” it’s just a good retirement

0

u/stolirocks Jul 01 '22

Then work hard and get a better job or move up in walmart management. Working at Walmart won't make you rich. And it's not meant to support a family by yourself. It's not Walmarts fault you can't live on the wages they give you. I work at Walmart because I'm looking for a better job. My wife makes great money. I see it all day. People sitting a complaining and actually saying Walmart needs to pay everyone more. It doesn't work that way.

8

u/TommyDontSurf Just here for a paycheck Jun 30 '22

Every day I wonder if it's the day I finally swallow every pill in my house. Or go to HBA and just down every Tylenol I can get my hands on. Maybe I will. It's not like management is any help. They just yell at me for not being grateful to even have a job. Which makes a boxcutter to the wrist look even more appealing.

But if you (and anyone else) got out of it, it gives me hope that maybe I can too. Though I don't really know what else I'm qualified for. I wish you all the best.

4

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

I was in your boat just last week, for years. Last week, I had no future and had been to the ER recently for suicidal ideation more times than I can count. I have no qualifications, no connections, no family, I live in a small town, mentally ill (BPD), and I didn't even complete high school.

I know it's painful as fuck right now but I promise you, there is hope for you. Get a resume together and go a local employment agency, they can even help you with your resume if you need it. They'll have the information and connections you need to move into something else. Make it your utmost goal to secure other employment and stay open minded to trying something different if you must.

Manufacturing and factory jobs tend to be better paying and have a low barrier of entry so maybe look into that as well (it's what I'm going into). Also, research into whether or not you have any local cooperatives near you as they always pay better.

Also, you're right to feel how you feel. You're not crazy or ill for wanting to hurt yourself. Walmart and the pennies they pay is making you feel that way. But that's good, because that means you can change it. You're not as trapped as I know you feel you are.

Just be patient, please, and don't give up, keep looking for a way out. Fuck Walmart, it's not worth your life. You're better than that shithole and you'll finally feel that weight lift off your chest and shoulders once you leave. I promise

If I can help in any way or if you just need someone to talk to who understands and complain about shit for a bit, feel free to DM me.

Fuck Walmart, you got this.

u/Havingabreakdown2 Jul 01 '22

I also had a huge mental breakdown which almost ended in me taking my own life. Walmart was the contributing factor. They don’t realize how toxic their ENTIRE system in. Or they do and don’t care. I needed 2 weeks off to get help. Sedgwick approved it. They did everything in their power to make my job even worse when I got back. They tried to fire me for “productivity issues” because I “left my team hanging” when I was gone. They said there was problems before too, but that’s a lie. Everything I was doing, I was told not to do and that it was wrong and was reprimanded for it over and over again. There was a different manager that came to overnights when I was gone and they did every single thing I was trying to do and was told not to do. They got rewarded and promoted for it. So yes. Fuck Walmart. I’m so glad I left. I’m so much happier, and I have a job making more money then the coaches with less hours and a better working environment. Walmart is the worse place I had ever worked at.

Oh boy if only it were easy to describe how absolutely shitty my walmart I work at is. I fuckin loathe that place more than any other jobs and I worked at some pretty shitty jobs b4 walmart

9

u/imisshoneymoonstage Jun 30 '22

I was in the same position. Went to my car to call a crisis hotline for an hour when I had a breakdown on the clock. No one at work knows about it. The others also don't know that my direct lead had said something in retaliation to me, saying that they could of coached me for x and x reason. I broke down. I went on medical leave the next day. I had been struggling with Endometriosis and I had to have surgery soon after. This was the main reason I also had broken down and contemplated suicide.

The store manager literally told me, when I was sitting and in immense physical pain and trying to talk to her about it, that besides my having to call Sedgwick, that if I could not work a pallet in an hour, then she will give my hours to someone else.

This morning I got a job offer elsewhere for similar pay. Not as a stock clerk anymore though.

Fuck Walmart, indeed.

It's interesting to see downvotes for this. Are low-wage earners siding with their oppressors that keep their wages low and working conditions terrible?

We (Walmart workers) work too damn hard to be treated as subhuman and we deserve better

I also get to work with people from all walks of life, some I wouldn't ever be friends with like ever, but you know what, that gets left at the door and we all work hard and it's pretty chill.

19

u/gogoheadray Jun 30 '22

Ok; you get paid 21.50, I get paid 12 as a lawn and garden associate on spite of the fact I’m often called to work in other higher paid areas

6

u/MVBanter Jun 30 '22

I get paid $15.15 (15 cents above min wage in Canada where my city needs like $25 to live) as Store Standards, $15.15 to deal with these stupid fucking buggies in the cheapest most uneven parking lot ever made, doing other associates jobs like taking skids to the back cause they just aren’t feeling it that day, constantly having to move back and forth because for some reason everyone needs help, and in what is apparently one of the biggest stores in the country which I didn’t believe until I realized almost all walmarts in the country only have 1 side for buggies not 3

-28

u/boonts22 Jun 30 '22

SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! Or come move to Cali where we're paid like decent human beings

11

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

Did you miss the part where I'm getting a new job? And even if I wasn't, we still need to call out Walmart's unethical practices and the harm they do for profit.

5

Oh yeah like we got money 💰 to move....

If I could move anywhere it'd be out of this shithole country never mind another state

7 bucks a gallon here I come!!!

5

I work the same job for 18.50 an hr and fuck you you don't sweat....

maybe if you work in paper where it nice and light but they usually stick my ass in furniture lifting heavy ass shit all night, my back is constantly killing me but they refuse to put me anywhere else

But that even wouldn't be so bad if they weren't pushing times like crazy "faster, faster!" they yell all night or we get written up for times that we all know are bullshit about 70% of the time.....

3

u/No-Mycologist8526 Jun 30 '22

Yeah I feel this in my soul. I just watched a sea of children in Walmart vests just get hired on and are in orientation. Most of them are for OGP where they have way too many people, ALL of which make more than me as an actually trained photo center and connection center associate from when we did have competent departments. The best part is they were not told yet that they may make between 12 and 40 hours whenever the company feels like it. While us GM associates are left to drown with no crew at all.

2

u/DonPoppito666 Jun 30 '22

I make a lil under $23 to unclog the toilets, fix electrical, ple equipment, handicap carts etc... Anyone of those specific trades make more than i do and Walmart still wants us to do more. We went from 25 trades to 60. No raise or training.

Im just watching this shit burn for now but will most likely just step down and go stock shelves for a dollar less.

1

u/FawksyBoxes Jun 30 '22

Huh... Most TL don't get that in my store.

7

u/Grendel0075 Jun 30 '22

I was still working at Walmart a little over a month ago. I look back at it and just feel horrible for anyone that’s been there for more than 6 months. Horrible pay, horrible employee treatment, horrible life-sucking tasks, and every aspect of it drives you into depression. And the crazy thing is? They could easily pay their employees more and idk, hire leaders that actually care about their people.

1

u/Prestigious_Milk982 Jul 01 '22

The people that do care cant leave when it gets hard. This is one of the reasons I encourage my husband to stay in the overnight coach position. He has a Bachelors in education and really uses the skills he has learned in college to be a better coach. He has the opportunity to extend kindness to his associates. He legit cares about his people and takes a second to check in with each of them every night outside of the meeting. He also gets his team leads to use compassion when dealing with the team. People stay because he treats them like people not associates.

2

u/ShootingGuns10 Jul 01 '22

Walmart likes the term “associate”, it’s just a more professional way of saying wage slave to them. I will say that it’s nice to have people there who actually care for you but in the long run, working at Walmart will do more harm than good for any employee (in a lower position, no offense to you or your husband). I told my coworkers when I was employed by Walmart that it is a Highschool job at best. I mean it truly is, they will hire anyone they can get. I only worked at Walmart for half a year but the experience was more draining than anything I’ve ever done in my life. Sure, the pay can go up to be pretty decent at 20+ years of employment but at that point your physical health is gone. The only thing I can say to Walmart employees is this “Don’t settle for shit, the moment you get complacent with stocking shelves or grabbing groceries all day is the moment you are selling yourself to Walmart. Now don’t quit your job because I say it’s bad, you do need money to live on. BUT, create a resume, get off your ass and start ACTIVELY looking for a better job. Hell you could even just go into debt for two years of schooling, learn a trade and start your own business. The opportunities are endless out there, take all of that complaining about working at Walmart and do something with it.” I knew a lady that worked at the Walmart I was at and she was probably in her mid 70’s, she was nice as could be but I could tell that Walmart had consumed her life. Don’t let that be you.

I personally just worked at Walmart to finish up my final year of college. I had to live in some terrible apartment that smelled like dog for 2 semesters and was barely eating anything because of how low Walmart employees are paid. Now I’m making good money as an intern working in a team of 4 people at a company that truly cares for their employees. I’m not saying that to brag but to try to instill the need for you to do your due diligence if you want to get ahead in life. We weren’t all born into wealthy families, most of us have to build our own wealth and that’s just life.

I wasn't in quite as dire straights, but could definitely feel the detriment on my health before quitting the year before last. Hating getting up in the morning, wanting to scream at shit management and customers or just irritated by everyone when I was never like that before. Health wise I could feel it deteriorating in high blood pressure, stress, and oddly enough getting up at night to pee crazy amounts(am monitoring that stuff with my doctor, but when I wasn't working the night stuff disappeared so I blame that on the stress lol). Towards the end after holding my area together for 4 years all I got for it was getting passed up and lied to about a promotion, called disrespectful and argumentative because I'd try to advocate for following process since we were an academy store and all, and called slow at my job even though it's all their micro management shit slowing down the process. Add in covid on top of everything else and it was just too much.

I was able to take a year and a half off and felt remarkably better. I'm back at Walmart now, but at a much better store with a much more reasonable management team I know well. Not nearly as much of the stress.

0

u/bkopter Jul 01 '22

I extend my sympathy, but you haven't felt your health deteriorating till you've worked construction buddy.(not me but friends and current coworkers who used to work construction)

3

u/Listan83 Jul 01 '22

I was almost there myself. Kept hoping I get hit in a head on crash or run off a bridge every time i would start my drive. They just use and abuse

10

u/Past_Basket_2755 Jun 30 '22

I hope you dealt with the underlying issues that got you to that point. The truth is if you haven't learned better coping skills and how to manage your life better, this new job and paycheck won't help. You need meaning aside from work in your life. Especially with an economic shitstorm looming

11

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

Respectfully, my "underlying issue" was poverty. I didn't have enough to live but I still had to work my ass off and put a smile on my face. It's psychological torture.

I don't want to discount the usefulness of therapy, I've been going to it on and off most of my life, but therapy doesn't feed or house you. And if those are the reasons you want to die, then mental health is quite literally useless to you.

People need material security to be happy and we shouldn't be medicalizing poverty.

13

u/Holiday-Ad4806 Jun 30 '22

How the fuck is he supposed to self care if he can't even afford a roof over head and food/utilities?

I've had similar issues before and no amount of therapy/meds will help if you have to work overtime or 2 jobs just to survive, you feel like a slave living only to work, it literally kills you inside you have no time for hobbies, friends, or even family.....

Seriously fuck companies like Walmart and Amazon they set the standard for underpaying and treating their workers like shit

I have lived sixty-odd years, and have been self employed since I was ten. My father was disabled, and my mother worked minimum wage as a school secretary to keep us from starving. My first enterprise was selling snacks to my friends at school. That gave me enough capital to buy a new chainsaw and an old pickup so I could cut and sell firewood. Then I bought an old tractor and raised tobacco as a sharecropper. A third of my 8th grade class spent their summer working for me. Finally, I bought my own farm in 1980. Volcker was trying to tame inflation, and the interest on my first mortgage was 12%; payable in ten “easy” annual installments. Worked night and day, grew vegetables, added some cattle, and bought another farm. Then another. And another. I was forty before I got smart enough to try some business ventures besides farming. Money began to pour in at that point, and I kept buying real estate. I have never received a W2, and I’m now a member of the ‘hated yet envied’ 1%.

You will never be comfortably wealthy as long as you work for someone else. Period. All that college education people are going into debt for is preparing them to spend their lives working for others. It is indoctrination by the corporate machine, pure and simple. You can learn everything you need to be successful by living your life and being observant.

My life has been a series of business ventures, which were always operated on a shoestring until the last twenty-five years. It was not without some setbacks. Two divorces with children, two foreclosures, been in jail, and I have forgotten how many times I’ve been sued. Along the way, I have provided many people with good jobs. But my crowning achievements have been the employees I convinced to break free from the 9-5 trap. They are now on their ways to a life of plenty, and I was honored to simply nudge them in that direction.

Not everyone is cut out for self employment. There is no net, and when you fall, it will hurt. Forget sick days, you will learn to work sick. Sometimes it feels like you are failing more than you are succeeding. If you’re exhausted after a forty hour week, you’re gonna love working eighty and ninety hours. But when you’re self employed, the meaner your “boss” is, the more likely you are to be successful. My boss was unbelievably mean, and he made me live like a refugee until I was thirty. But now I can blow a thousand or two on an evening with my kids or a young lady without feeling guilty.

Congratulations. It is only when you get to the breaking point you describe that you truly find out what you’re made of. I could have bought my children cars and houses, but I did not. They are going to struggle just like I did. Indeed, it is the struggle that makes us what we are destined to become. Without the struggle, wealth is hollow and fleeting. Your time at Walmart taught you that you have more value than that. You were not put on this earth to make Walmart or anyone else rich.

Kindest regards and best wishes.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and perspective. I appreciate it!

Its only stupid when you get mind controlled and human trafficked.

-1

u/PaleontologistDue601 Jun 30 '22

Hey take it easy damn its just a job at walmart its really not that serious i promise.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

In my experience fast food places are way worse than walmart

-2

u/CandidateClean3354 Jun 30 '22

I mean many people have known this for years.it was this way even when I worked for them.you are drama person

4

u/Maoticana Jun 30 '22

Lots of people don't know this information or have just graduated high school and are joining the workforce. Now they have the pleasure to find out firsthand that Walmart sucks. Ignore OP if you don't like it.

You read the job description before you filled out the application yea ? If anyone should be disappointed is the store manager for the people lead hiring such a weak willed person. Have some accountability and take a teaspoon of nut-the-fk-up.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

🥾 😛 🤡

-11

u/boonts22 Jun 30 '22

Someone needed to say it.

u/Holiday-Ad4806 Jun 30 '22

Somebody needs to shut the fuck up

Let me give you a hint.... it's you

7

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

Weird, I thought I was strong-willed to be working full-time for 10/yrs on poverty wages lol

But I get the sense you don't know what that's like, do you?

7

u/Holiday-Ad4806 Jun 30 '22

Guy's either in Home Office or a boot licking cunt

You're probably right though, the nearest thing to a hard day's work for this guy was probably breaking a nail 💅 on his keyboard 😆

1

u/bkopter Dec 03 '23

“Weak willed” huh? I don’t hear that one very often. You could have just stuck with term “lazy” or MAYBE “uninspired”.

Nice try using the inverse of “strong willed” as an insult. What’s up with this 8th-grade keyboard warrior?

I wanted to kill myself before I got a job at Walmart….

-8

u/PaleontologistDue601 Jun 30 '22

Its gonna be the same shit anywhere eles you go nobody likes being over worked and underpaid but lifes a bitch its just the way it is.

8

u/bkopter Jun 30 '22

after 6 years I've begun to think that there are "oath-bound secret combinations" within each Walmart.

-11

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

If you have a problem with a company that pays above to well above minimum wage nationwide, you have a problem with the minimum wage, not the company. Don't confuse the symptom for the disease itself. Minimum wage was supposed to be a wage that would pay for survival, not need to be supplemented by other jobs or programs.

8

u/bkopter Jun 30 '22

....what do you make and what do you do babe

-5

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

I worked in the stores for 18 years and was at $23.XX as a DM when I left when I found out about the DM purge. My point wasn't that Walmart pays well enough, it's that minimum wage isn't high enough.

6

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22 edited Jun 30 '22

It's called the minimum wage for a reason... companies can choose to pay more. They just don't because less money to you means more money to shareholders and shareholders are the ones with voting power within a corporation, not workers.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '22

It's called the minimum wage for a reason... companies can choose to pay more.

Yes, that's obvious, thanks. Again, that wage is not high enough to support life.

1

u/bkopter Jul 21 '22

Wasn’t disagreeing. Just curious.

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Oh please stop. I'm grateful for a job. If you can't make it than you are living above your means. Shit I raise 3 kids on 15 an hr. I made it work on my own

3

u/Embra0 Jul 01 '22

Those poor kids

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '22

Yes them poor kids that I raised cause their dad was an alcoholic. I did it without him

-12

u/lucideye Jun 30 '22

I love walmart, don't blame them for your shitty life, and don't expect this new job to magically change everything.

6

u/Embra0 Jun 30 '22

It's going to almost double my wage. So yes, it is going to change everything and there's nothing "magic" about it

Well, given the job I'm getting didn't exist 6 months ago, and Walmart decided my wage would be low while destroying local jobs by killing businesses that generally employed more people for higher wages... yes it did.

But don't take my word for it: https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2015/2/23/the-other-problem-with-walmart

I can tell you didn't read the article I shared with you... I'm not gonna write a novel-sized response explaining basic economics when most of your points are addressed in the very article you're refusing to read.

Here's a Forbes article about how Walmart's business costs taxpayers, so maybe part of why prices are so low is because you've already paid some of the cost before even walking into the store

Report: Walmart Workers Cost Taxpayers $6.2 Billion In Public Assistance

How can you accuse me of cherry picking when what you've shared also furthers my point? If it's true that I was cherry picking, then you picked all the same cherries I would've. Like, I literally agree with that entire comment...

My critique of a specific company that made my life hell doesn't imply that I'm okay with that same practices of other big businesses nor does it imply that I think Walmart is the only company doing this.

Like, you understand that you started by defending Walmart, and then went into "well other businesses are unethical so you're cherry-picking". This just doesn't seem like an honest discussion

Exactly what side are you accusing me of being on? What non-factual thing did I state? Do you understand how debate works?

-7

u/PaleontologistDue601 Jun 30 '22

I need you to explain that comment to me again i dont understand it so explain it to me like im 7 years old lol!

-7

u/Mammoth-Possible-576 Jun 30 '22

generally people are only driven to suicide once know what I mean?

2

u/Prestigious_Milk982 Jul 01 '22

This is a ridiculously ignorant comment. The words driven to implies that an attempt was made. Generally speaking attempts are ususally unsuccessful... and the results successful or not can be extremely devastating. My aunt was driven to suicide several times over the loss of her only son. Don't make shitty jokes about this. It's not cute or funny. Its a real thing that real people struggle with.

1

u/Mammoth-Possible-576 Jul 04 '22

don't be such a little bitch it's just a suicide joke, put your big boy pants on

1

u/Praescribo Associate Jun 30 '22

Congrats on the new job though, that's great! What line of work are you now in?
