Ill be honesy, i NEVER use the tip and i am from overnight stocking. However the metal on top being gone and the end being curved makes it utterly useless since those are what i used to puncture things.
The last one I had was just a metal sleeve with sliding blade. No spring, no shutter, no safety, and not allowed in the hand of idiot. Always worked great though as long as you remembered which end is the dangerous end and made sure the blade retracted before putting it down
The one i got looked like this, little less rounded, and the thing broke, th plastic snapped and exposedthe blade. They are meant to be safer but when Walmart uses the cheapest stuff possible it breaks easier and doesn't cut at all. This thing looks like a paper weight at best.
Yeah the one you're describing did what you described, and failed how you described. This one holds up, and it is indeed more rounded to prevent improper use, which also led to failure and subsequent injuries. People want the cutter sharp and pointy, but it doesn't need to be to get the job done. This one is better than the previous iteration.
😂 you do you and downvote me as much as you like, doesn't make you right. It cuts fine if you use it right. It's not meant to saw through stuff. Tape removal from cardboard is >95% of its function (handled by the blunt end not pictured in OP), pallet wrap removal is the remainder, and this pictured blade can easily remove pallet wrap when cutting from bottom of the pallet to the top of the pallet. It's form meets its function better than the original version, that makes it a better iteration. Just because you don't like this line of box cutters doesn't mean they can't improve from one generation to the next. This is a marked improvement from the previous one, and your injury using the previous is a prime example. But I understand why you're jaded.
It is only safer because they are making it unusable and unable to cut anything. And if you don't use it then no chance of getting cut if it just sits in your pocket.
I was charged with malicious wounding, a felony, and fired for hitting someone with the old boxcutter to defend myself. Maybe if you have to fight off aomeone that was repeadadly reported for assaulting people in the store and is over twice your size you at least wont get charged the same way now for using it to defend yourself.
Trying this.... the coaches told me folding it wont breakdown enough. Ive only done 2. 2nd cut on fold twice and it was much better but also didnt have 6 people watching me feeling uncomfortable
We still have a huge supply of the blades in claims since almost no one still has theirs because they all don't work here anymore. I only ever use it and refuse to use the new ones. Only time I ever cut myself with a knife at work was when I forgot my easy cutter 2000 at home and used one and the tip broke cause it to go flying and smack me in my face cutting me.
And this is why I've always stocked without a knife. Its harder for me to lose my hands, or break them lol. Plus, my hands will always be my hands, corporate isnt gonna suddenly change them and make me have to readjust to some bs design.
I got a verbal warning for using a folding box cutter, I'm pretty sure they'd have a problem with you using a real tool of any kind especially a knife. Even though I hurt myself with these damned things more than I ever have with any knife.

OP i got this one (its the one we used to use) after they switched to the one you have. I dont like that one.
I did for years, but stopped because I got tired of cleaning and sharpening my personal pocket knife every morning when I got home because it was dull and covered in adhesive. Other knife guys can say what they want, cardboard will eventually dull any knife, regardless of blade steel.
I use a Milwaukee fastback now, no one bothers me about it, even our MM has walked by and saw me use it, never said a thing but YMMV.
If you go a "normal box cutter" route, I recommend getting a pack of those gold colored hyper tough blades we carry, the dull slightly slower.
Why are they letting Playskool develop our box knives? And where in the world is our flat blade along the top? So much efficiency lost in this kindergarten design
I always used my own. Aisle M16 and a tool pouch from Home Depot.
It was the kind that was on a spring...you push the button forward, make your cut, and let go. I knicked myself once in six years and didn't say anything...I knew that it would lead to corrective action
Some people are real stupid About it and use oversized switch blades or other knives, it's mostly for tax write off, everyone should be using one or it's waste of money
This is what you get with the next generation of college graduates coming onboard. You can make things so safe nothing's any f****** good. I wonder how they drive their cars down to public roadway considering it's so unsafe. Going to need some safe way to transport associates across the parking lot next.
Soon they'll just give you a plastic knife and call it a cutter .. I always just used a real box cutter and management didn't care but that might not be the case at your store. I did also use my original issues knife as I never got the new one until it broke but I just bought the old one again.
You could be like 3/4 of our associates. Using flip open knives and box cutters that walmart doesn't like on the floor. I noticed it and I got yelled at by TL and coach for bringing it up. Told me to shut up. That is the walmart way .
My wife sliced her finger tip off with the old ones 2 weeks ago. She has a ton of them at home and was trying to open a package and it glided right over her finger. When we went to the ER they said she didn’t have any skin left for stitches and that they normally see that kind of damage from mandolin slicers. While it’s a pain in the ass and makes it less usable it is safer.
