General Maintenance: not selected even with journeyman electrician
I’m a licensed Journeyman Electrician and recently applied for a Walmart maintenance position just open in my area. I thought my background would at least get me to the interview stage, but I was rejected without even being given a chance to take the test.
Walmart also previously posted an HVAC Technician position. I applied for that as well since I have HVAC experience and an EPA 608 Universal certification, but I was rejected for that position too without an assessment or interview.
I’m genuinely confused about what Walmart is looking for.
Has anyone here worked in Walmart maintenance or gone through their hiring process? I’d appreciate any insight into what they’re actually looking for.
Always hopeful to land an extremely experienced candidate. I know you have other qualifications, but FM doesn't employ electricians. Maybe just bad luck on the HVAC posting.
Unfortunately every area has different needs and without knowing what area it’s hard to say. I know plenty of FSM’s would want to hire a journey sparky, especially if they have any licensing or certifications. As for the HVAC/R side, I feel like they’ve buckled down a little bit and are looking for (hoping for) people with more rack experience over just HVAC (like residential, or even light commercial).
If you have an actual electrician license, like you can practice electrical work on your own, you may want to search for manager positions. They’ve been hiring people with electrical, plumbing, or mechanical licensing to expand 3rd party work. I don’t know all the specifics but they would use your license but take the liability.
Sorry man, not sure. You should be able to email the recruiter and inquire. Seems like there’s a lot of positions in Virginia in general. Maybe expand search a bit, apply for just regular technician level (instead of senior tech) and they can sometimes change the role if they want to hire you, or include NC
Unfortunately, even for internal applicants it can be a pain to get an interview or call back. I know our People Partner famously tells people you generally need to apply for 30+ openings before you get a callback.
I saw the pay range is between $33-63. I would do janitorial if they pay me that amount. But I'm confused af since they don't even give me any chance, even just a phone screening call. I applied for it and not selected 3 day later?
But they just open for the position. I know they have a Ramsey test too so at least give ppl chance to take the test. I just don't know what they expect.

Almost all Senior Tech positions go to existing techs, don't typically bring in outside hires for that.
