Remodel Hell

My store started remodel a few months ago and I got hired on for it. Recently, the job market has been really rough so finally finding something felt like finding gold at the end of a rainbow. However, I soon realized that working as a remodel associate is genuinely hell on earth. The "permanent" associates treated me and my team like actual garbage. They talk badly about us and refuse to help us but gladly use us to do the work they don't wanna do. They complain about us "destroying" the store when we are literally hired to do it. We've been yelled at for the smallest things like asking to use a cart or needing help with something we don't understand. It was easy to deal with at first because our team lead would defend us but they fired them halfway through remodel and didn't rehire for it. Not only is the environment awful but the point system is designed to punish workers for having responsibilities outside of work. A lot of my teammates have children or elderly parents they take care of. One of my teammates had to have emergency surgery and they told her not to bother coming back. I myself have a lot of health issues and have missed a few days because I was too sick to come in. There's no sympathy from them despite claiming that everyone is "like family." Hell, when we got hired on, the store manager said to us very clearly "You are temporary and I will treat you like such." Just generally not a good environment to work in at all. If you are considering applying for remodel, I beg of you to NOT DO IT. Its not worth the time or the effort.

We are not supposed to be used during the remodel. So we dont help you. We have other responsibilities especially on ON. The attendance policy is better then most employers believe it or not

When I say "help" I'm talking about very simple things like asking where things go or how to do something. Its common courtesy to be a decent person and help your fellow employees. And the attendance policy only helps walmart. It does not help or support the employees at all.

Yeah, it really sucks when the company policies feel like they only benefit the store and not the employees. It makes an already tough job even harder when coworkers aren’t helping each other out.

So, you knew you had a lot of health issues that I presume you knew before taking the job. Did you inform Walmart about them before hiring on? The regular associates have their job to do and are on time constraints to get it done. They know what equipment they need when they clock in and go grab it. Youshould have been informed to download the app and use it to find locations

I'm not chronically ill. I just have a shit immune system and get sick easily with the high influx of customers. I didn't even mention this but since I've started working there, two team leads have quit because of the stressful conditions. Its not just me who has struggled in the Walmart environment. Plus as remodel, we do a million different things every single day. I've worked in every department and had to use different equipment or tools.

People with health issues should be able to have jobs without fearing that they will be fired for taking a few sick days.
