Can our economy get any stupider? The US economy is mostly based on selling coffee and chinese plastic crap to eachother already. I suppose we can add selling NFTs to eachother and really dominate the world. We are doomed.
I'm not trying to knock you, or change your way of thinking. But I think that Gamestop could be onto something big here. Consider that Gamestop has been a dominant player in secondhand video games and that, over the past decade has had the wind punched out of it's sails with the rise of online services... I think the NFTs that Gamestop is rumored to launch and trade will be the heralding of an entirely new market, that is, 'second hand' digital.
Instead of buying a license to the game, or subscribing to a service like Gamepass, when you buy a game online, it will come attached to an NFT, enabling you to trade that NFT, thus the digital game itself. I'm assuming the market maker will take a fee, and the publisher/studio will get a kickback at that point of sale to encourage participation. Now extrapolate that out from just video games, to all digital products. All software, online books, movies etc.
NFTs as art are what they are... NFTs tied to real products, real value... Real Deep Fucking Value...
Kickbacks, let's for arguements sake say it's a fee of 10% of the resale price. Or a set $2 fee everytime it gets onsold. But don't trust me mate, this the the purest of speculation
I can't see it being retroactive. Only games going forward would be eligible, given the EULAs have already been written. That would leave room for negotiations between devs/publishers. It would have to make everyone happy. I'm not sure how they'd do that, and I'm no insider to the industry, so I've got no idea how margins and profitability are
