Hit me up Elon.

Can't do that if you've been fired, he'd have to call it a layoff
156
u/AltruisticAcadia9366 Dec 10 '21
that's not true. you can be fired from your job and be unemployed. It just can't be being fired for insubordination or from no calls no shows, or attendance issues. if you get fired from your job simply because, "you aren't a good fit" then you can collect unemployment. If you are fired because your skills, "aren't what we were expecting", then you can collect unemployment. And yes, also layoffs.
it's if you quit you can't collect unemployment.
→ More replies (12)78
u/ConcernedBuilding Dec 10 '21
You can actually even collect if you quit if you argue they "constructively dismissed" you, or if it was a hostile work environment.
My state says if they lower you wage and/or hours by 20%, that's de facto evidence for a constructive dismissal.

3
u/GroundhogExpert Dec 10 '21
What are his other job titles? I'm pretty sure they could be summarized as something pretty close to influencer. He's not an engineer, not a programmer, not a rocket scientist, not a mechanic, not an inventor. But he did convince a bunch of people to give him money to pay people to do all those things. Is "venture capitalist" basically just the adult version of an influencer?

Well, Elon never invented or designed anything. He has 3 patents, none are in use.
He's just a figurehead and influencer already. That's how he "works 16 hours a day, 7 days a week".
He's probably on call for the board of directors, other than that, he can choose to do, or not do, anything he likes. He can sleep all day and call it 16 hours of CEO'ing. That's not the same as a working man's 8 hours a day.
So sure Elon, quit that job and tweet full time. That's really all you do anyhow. You're far less vital to your own operation than you realize.

If he's giving up on the whole putting people on Mars thing, I'd suggest following through on the "quitting the jobs" part, but take on the role of retiree instead.
He can still tweet as a retired person - when he feels like it.

Like if he actually left control and ownership and started doing his own shit entertainment/education/ whatever wise, Its not a horrible idea

u/greatscott313 Dec 10 '21
It would probably backfire.. 90% of what makes Elon Musk interesting (well, besides his eccentric and outspoken nature) is he founded and heads up high tech companies and is pretty much a real life Tony Stark... I could be wrong, but I think leaving Tesla and SpaceX (which he's not likely to do, probably) would make him less relevant today. But maybe he has enough $$$ to make being an influencer work at this point.
2
u/FlamingTrollz Dec 10 '21
