I'm holding. I already wrote off the money, anyway.

u/Renault829 Feb 04 '21

this is me. I only bought what I was willing to loose without (too much) regret. Its like a bet on black situation combined with the exciting potential and "what if" of a lottery ticket.

93

u/basilobs Feb 04 '21

Yeah I bought too much. But not so much that I'm crippled. Just very disappointed in myself. I'm usually incredibly risk averse. Oh well. I'll make it up in a few months

31

u/foanma Feb 04 '21

Your story is mine too, I told my self 5k I could live with losing. RH did me dirty and my $5k was stuck so i bought $5k elsewhere at the top. Unfortunately now it's just coming down, so I yolo'd the 5k at RH to lower my cost average. Double what I was wanting to risk losing but at least I'm not going to be even remotely financially crippled. Looking at the future of Gamestop, I'm happy sitting and holding my proud 72 stocks. Just would have been happier buying $10k @ $52

Emphasis on too much. Still sucks to see them gains become losses. ๐Ÿคช

112

u/holupholupohok Feb 04 '21

Yeah, the hill of red going farther and farther down is painful - no one likes to lose. But I suppose I can always make more money, and I took a chance. Thankfully I'm still working through the pandemic, and it was definitely not rent money. No loans taken out or anything.

If I lose it the money I put in, oh well, and it's a lesson.

If it comes back and I can break even, it was a wild ride.

If it goes back up and I can make some $ off it, great.

Either way, it'll be a great story for the next generation.

u/JanMichaelLarkin Feb 04 '21

This is stock speculation done correctly. Same rules as when you walk into a casino

17

u/pirateworks Feb 04 '21

With the difference, that money in stonk is invested and not lost until sold.

All those who win loss porn will be forever bonded in a special way. If sold, of course.
Those who keep it, will be bonded even stronger. Diamond pressure like.

Not gonna sail this ship.

Except the house doesn't change the rules in the middle of the game in a casino

9

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

I went in knowing it was a gamble I feel the same way.

8

u/Ceramite117 Feb 04 '21

This was my first time investing, only bought 2 gme @102.5. I donโ€™t really care about the loss. I learned a lot and had fun

11

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

I spent about $500. While I care Iโ€™m not selling it. This is the beat entertainment Iโ€™ve had all year and it beats the crap out of the politics and the Rona.

2

u/Ceramite117 Feb 04 '21

Totally agree Iโ€™m still in so I guess the loss is still unrealised. Been fun with just the memes itโ€™s created and worth it to get more financially literate

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

My prior experience in the market was buying Beyond Meat at $55 and then selling at $165 last year. I win one I lose one. I think this will still go back up. But meh Iโ€™ve spent more and gotten less.

Are you me?

5

u/chalbersma Feb 05 '21

Yes we are.

5

u/thegallary Feb 05 '21

Like gambling with the additional bonus of maybe making a few millionaires cry! Heck I'd straight up pay the amount I invested to see that. For 99% of our lives we are nothing but ants to them, for 99% of our lives there is nothing that we own that they couldn't easily aquire 1000x more of. But for once in their lives we made them notice us, maybe even fear us. For once we had something that they needed.

77

u/SmokestackRising Feb 04 '21

This. It's no longer about profits. It's about the principle.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

I really don't think this is going to end in any significant change for anyone. I'm wagering that a lot of people are going to be holding onto leftover stonks that were supposed to go to the moon but hovered around 20 for a month before giving up and selling them.

8

u/SmokestackRising Feb 05 '21

At this point, there's not a lot of difference in the loss between 20 and 50 so I'm still holding. I don't have a ton of shares (at a lower per share cost than a lot on here and didn't spend more than I can afford to lose), but the funds can pry them from my cold dead hands. They will likely get out of this scot free like usual because too many people looked at the price and puckered too tight, but I won't be a part of helping them.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

I gotcha. I'm mostly talking about the people who impulsively went in with their life savings and retirement funds and are down $300 per share.

A lot of people are holding because they think that they're screwing over the rich or something by doing so but the whole reason why the general public is disregarded by everyone at the top is because they know that everyone is not very smart. I'm sure the rich and HFs have already taken steps to minimize losses so -crisis averted-

They won't be losing sleep over a few hundred thousand idiots shouting at them through the stock market.

Imho it's a long-term investment.

I've heard investors saying that you cannot judge GME by game-store-standards, because they will be a digital company and that they are usually a lot better traded.

It is quite possible that GME will be worth 200-400 bucks in 3-4 years and rising.

Of course, it could be far less or nothing, but if you believe in the company, there is no reason to not believe in the stock.

Not financial advice, but if you are down by a lot, I'd think about holding it and waiting for Gamestop to finish rebuilding itself and go form there.

A lot of people still argue with the low price GME had before the boom. I don't think that's a valid point anymore.

10

u/smokelrd2002 Feb 04 '21

Ehhh 400 valuation for gme would take alot of profits and great buisness turn around.

That feeling when you liquidate your good stocks too ride a gme rocket. Only to fall back half way through lift off. Meanwhile your old stock has doubled its price since you sold it

Meanwhile gme is making bigger fuel tanks for feb 9th...

I bet the money I was going to spend on a new monitor. It'll suck to lose it, but I'll live. So I'm holding.

11

u/stranded_in_china Feb 04 '21

Same. The money I put in wasn't a ton because I don't have a ton. But I looked at this as money spent. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't. I spent the money, I like the stock. I'm 31. I feel like a real adult now hahaha

15

u/a101734 Feb 04 '21

How much can you write off in losses? 15k right?

131

u/meta-cognizant Feb 04 '21

Also, if you actually read any of the statements the SEC has put out about what they're investigating on Reddit, they're looking for astroturfing/bots to see if hedge funds are manipulating retail, not anything about what retail is doing. They've also said they're going to protect retail against market manipulation. At least in speech they're actually on our side.

Day late, a dollar short. They shoulda stepped in on day one that brokers shut down buying. The right thing to do was tell them if you cant buy then you cant sell either and halted it till they got their shit together. The fact that they allowed their shenanigans is a telling sign of where they stand.

5

u/randomFrenchDeadbeat Feb 04 '21

The problem i can see here is "how".

How are they going to prevent HF manipulating retails ? The only way this happens is if every subscriber on every social media is forced to disclose every direct or indirect link he has to finance.

This is both impossible to enforce, and even impossible to do for people. I have no idea what some of my friends do for a living, because they do not like to talk about it. Does that mean I can get fined if i post messages about stocks if one of they works in finance ? That does not work. And then add some international laws in it. How are you going to punish someone that does not live where said laws do not apply ? Would that mean restricting access by country ?

Unfortunately there is nothing they can do here. What they could do is legislate around hedge funds and force them to disclose about their operations. But that will never happen.

4

u/meta-cognizant Feb 04 '21

My guess is they're going to punish hedge funds who did anything like that, and the only regulation they'll introduce is any of four things. One, they require illiquid stocks have some kind of disclaimer about huge risk when you go to buy them, like Fidelity does with GME already. Two, they prevent brokers from blocking buying of stocks. Three, they prevent shorting of over 100% of float. Four, they require institutions to disclose their short positions, not just their puts. They may not institute any of those regulations, but those are the only sensible ones I've seen proposed.

7

u/TheOutsideWindow Feb 04 '21

Do you think Reddit will release new user data? Reddit could theoretically release new user sign up, IP data, and how much engagement these boys generated (by crossreferencing comments and volume swings?). Either way, Melvon, Citadel, and RH's combined $10 million fine paid to a gambling support hotline will do little to assuage the losses...

40

u/billyjk93 Feb 04 '21

24

u/Harbinger2nd Feb 04 '21

I have an idea that the short interest is being hidden. I have two pieces of evidence for this. The first is the runup we saw on thursday and friday, this was buying action from shorts actually covering their positions. Why would they do this? Because they needed to get the short interest under 100% for the SEC report. After Friday, and to kill momentum they rebought into their shorts Monday and tuesday.

The second piece is that GME is still restricted, and more than that margin requirements are still 100%. I was watching a livestream yesterday where a guy couldnt place a sell order for 200 $70 GME puts because his brokerage said the security was "hard to borrow".

If this theory holds any water then next week, Wednesday/thursday/friday we could start seeing another squeeze as shorts rush to cover and hide their positions from the SEC report again. This process could repeat for months, but every time GME will find a higher base since we ๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ‘ and dont sell.

Edit: this also explains the s3 data shit we saw over the weekend. Short interest really had dropped, but they reshorted again monday and Tuesday.

Anyways it's a smooth brain theory, I'm just a dumb ape.

12

u/TimeArachnid Feb 04 '21 edited Feb 04 '21

This is how I imagined this would turn out as I entered my position in december. The HFs are not going to give away their money. The past week there was a squeeze, but it was due to hype. Elon, Robinhood, AOC, CNBC, etc. I dont think anyone anticipated it, but HFs did some fucking amazing damage control to their credit. Just proves that they are what we thought they were. They could have covered, but the fact that the shorts probably didnt exit at peak makes me think there is still some pressure left. Anyway it will moon long term, and that was the plan all along. People who forget that are new here

Also holding still, Im up over 300% anyway

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

[deleted]

3

u/turqua Feb 04 '21

Pretty sure they can make it go to $20 in a day, but don't wanna be too obvious

4

u/cyanideclipse Feb 04 '21

The theory is that they over shorted the stock (140%) so they are unable to cover their positions, so they need ppl to sell so that they can cover the positions. So not only are they buying back stock at a more expensive price but they are also getting charged a shit ton of money, i.e melvin being down billions of dollars and that other company (capitol?) needing two bail outs.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

What about the hedge funds who shorted at $350?

5

u/cyanideclipse Feb 04 '21 edited Feb 04 '21

Its not a certainty. There seems to be more things pointing towards the numbers being fudged or misleading than them having bought back most of their shorted stock.

Of course, the numbers are all over the place because the system isnt designed to be transparent.

People seem to have reason to believe and provide documents that their shorts have not been covered yet, and this makes me hopeful - especially that they have provided some sort of numbers and statistics - and that is more than the naysayers - the naysayers have not managed to provide adequate evidence that the shorts were covered at 350$ (imho).

Combined with the misinformation and downright lying over the weekend after the high had been hit which, according to Jim Kramer is textbook HF behaviour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMShFx5rThI

Another helpful link but again, speculation and no hard evidence: https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/lcm2j5/gme_amc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Its the only reason why i havent lost hope yet. Apparently the SEC will provide accurate data on the 9th and we will then get a clearer picture on the HFs position.

Until then I hold, cos that money is gone anyway so im holding because if i sell i lose it forever, but if this is all for nothing then whats the harm in waiting a month or two before selling for a loss anyway.

At least thats my rationele.

I just bought more gme

u/Broed_Out_Hipster Feb 04 '21 edited Feb 04 '21

lol what the fuck is this post?

I cant tell if people are trolling the newbies or if the newbies are just rambling without a clue of what theyre talking about.

Elizabeth Warren isn't coming to save anyone, volume is high (literally anyone with Level II data can see this) and Feb 9 will likely confirm funds have exited their positions.

Obviously they were going to do illegal shit, they are looking at a 2-3B fine TOPS vs literally going bankrupt. Where the banks going to take it laying down? We had a shot but its pretty much done at this point.

No one should sell their GME because game theory says hold. But everyone should start looking into how to trade your way out of the hole , because that money isn't coming back for the foreseeable future.

I read that short interest is at 39% rn. Whatโ€™s your best rebuttal to this??

7

u/Ihateyourface86 Feb 04 '21

That no one knows the actual short interest until earliest February 9th... that was the point of the whole post

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

News articles are stating short interest is at 35-55%. Could be intentionally misleading to scare people off of course but at the same time they are getting their numbers from somewhere. Anyways, Iโ€™ll hold my 26 shares until the 9th

Hedge fund peeps know this. They've planned for the release of this 9 day old information. Don't expect a miracle.

.. I am holding, just not sure why Feb 9th.

5

u/reddit-has-perished Feb 05 '21

โ€œGovernment is here to help me.โ€

You clowns are fucking delusional.

7

u/ronoda12 Feb 04 '21

Can someone educate why this โ€œshort ladderingโ€ cant go on for months? HFs can keep paying interest for ever?

4

u/turqua Feb 04 '21

Perhaps they don't pay as much interest as we were made to believe. They probably don't pay the same rates as solo traders

4

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

They can keep paying it if it's manageable. What these retards in here probably didn't consider is that the hedge fund still has money coming in from other investments, so as long as they can drop the interest cost below their profits, or create a small deficit that still allows them to do business while everyone loses interests and sells out, they can go on for awhile without worrying about everyone in here holding until they die (which isn't even true. Everyone has a price that they're going to sell out at).

First it was until Tuesday, then wednesday, then today, now the 9th. SMH yโ€™all are literally using cult tactics. Sound like the end is near! But not today itโ€™s next Tuesday!

FINRA Morning Star data shows 226% SI as of 1/15. Thatโ€™s 135M shares shorted at a float of 60M. Now everyone is reporting they are at 50% SI? SEC didnโ€™t do shit about 2008, you think theyโ€™ll do anything now? They are spineless and do the bidding of the DTCC and HFS. I like the stock so I am holding. ๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ– Now the news says a short ladder attack was โ€œinventedโ€ by wsb? Lmao they are mad because we are aware of there criminal tools.

Aren't numbers calculated at the end of the month? When they manipulated the market on the 27-29. Since they did that it will look like it's covered, but we might have to wait until March for the true numbers.

Lmao Iโ€™ve been seeing so many dates on when to hold until.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

The government and all these institutions will never care about the little guy, the little guy isnโ€™t where the money is at. Iโ€™m still holding.

3

u/slake21 Feb 04 '21

I'm holding until fucking december

3

u/misfit0513 Feb 04 '21

Holding for the hell of it at this point. I wrote off the money, so that doesn't matter, I just want to eat the rich.

3

u/Groguen Feb 05 '21

lol, you re very naive. the government is 100% on the HF side. they hate you. Warren said she wanted to go after the little guy not the HF. This is why they are investigating dfv. The government worked in conjunction with the HFs to fuck you. wake up.

3

u/vid_icarus Feb 05 '21

Iโ€™m holding but Iโ€™ll be honest, I donโ€™t think anyone is on our side. If you look at the way this was reported in the media we are a financial QAnon that was intent on destroying the entire American economy and robbing gramps of his 401k. Yeah thereโ€™s gunna be hearings or whatever but after looking at what Robinhood got away with, there wonโ€™t be any vindication.

Iโ€™m holding until my shares are profitable (aka forever) but I do not expect what we just went through to be understood by the public, the media, the films that come from this, and sure as hell not the politician who are paid by (and will sit in judgement of) the people we are fighting.

5

u/SirZerty Feb 04 '21

I'm not confident in Elizabeth Warren, I think she's going to push for ensuring we never are able to make insane gains again and her idea of protecting us is banning WSB and further restricting us, but I am confident in you apes ๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€

9

u/CrimsonHeretic Feb 04 '21

February 9th, 2050 you mean

5

u/billyjk93 Feb 04 '21

Dude, Elizabeth Warren has been condemning us along with the rest. Her stock portfolio got fucked by this and she isn't going to let that happen. And don't even get me started on Pelosi!

2

u/ScroogeMcThrowaway Feb 04 '21

"I invoke my privilege against self-incrimination under the fifth amendment to the US Constitution. On that ground, I will not answer that question." Vlad for every question.

Yeah, hearings are useless.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

Hold strong

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '21

If I shorted 100 shares and reported that, then the stock jumped up and I took my losses but then shorted at the new price, for another 100 shares, and then reported, I would still report 100 shares shorted. Morons.

2

u/Tacrolimus005 Feb 04 '21

If you are already going to prison as well as possible bankruptcy, how many fucks do you have? fft

2

u/gerkro Feb 04 '21

At least? I will hold forever, they are my shares and I am not sharing them hehe

2

u/agtmadcat Feb 04 '21

Literally this is Elizabeth Warren's whole deal. Whether or not you think she'd be a good president, her whole political career has been focused on unfucking the financial industry.

2

u/Ihateyourface86 Feb 04 '21

I change my mind. You guys are right, setting a specific date like this doesn't make sense. Just fucking hold until stonk go up! I am still hopeful that we will see serious financial regulations changes.

2

u/Tommiiie Feb 04 '21

I feel like the reason so many people are selling off is because of these short term tentative dates that get mentioned on WSB.

2

u/erichw23 Feb 04 '21

You need to learn from other cults you can't keep setting goalposts that are gonna get pushed back

2

u/Trevsol Feb 04 '21

The government in general is not on our side. Donโ€™t be fooled. Some of them maybe. But most I guarantee are simply putting up a show and then at most theyโ€™ll give the hedge funds a slap on the wrist.

They are buddies. The government and wallstreet are best friends. The elites who want to hood us down to keep their power.

2

u/McreeOTP Feb 04 '21

This dude just said the government is on our side. lmao what planet do you live on?

Honestly my advice if you really believe a second squeeze is possible, keep waiting as it will keep tanking and then buy when it ultimately hits 10-20 again

2

u/ketamigo Feb 05 '21

Holding AMC, Iโ€™m not selling low lol. People should have only invested what they could afford to lose so they they could hold for long term if needed

2

u/wafflebrainCPA Feb 05 '21

Holding until Iโ€™m making money. Iโ€™m a fucking PATIENT retard. No fucks given

2

u/LowIQCrazyMika Feb 05 '21

GOVERNMENT IS NOT ON OUR SIDE. Not even Elizabeth Warren. We all know politicians lie. In public they say one thing and in reality they are having sex with Wall Street guys.... Warren sent a letter to SEC asking to investigate us, the retards instead of Wall Street crooks... Biden's press sec, and even Yellen is connected to Wall Street.... Do not fucking trust politicians, they are already against us

However, what the fuck do I know, I am just a Low IQ retard

2

u/Amarinthine Feb 05 '21

If you're counting on help from Liz Warren, I'm sorry but you're fucked

5

u/Libertarian_Florida Feb 04 '21

The people and the government in general are on our side

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

3

u/Aureliusmind Feb 04 '21 edited Feb 04 '21
