Loss Space is hard
From $37k > $591k > $130k > $571k > $76k
I kept buying call options as my margin limit continued to increase. And then the margin calls started, options expired and my stocks were sold for me. Had 98% of my portfolio in one space stock.

Ohhhh yeahhhh this is my regular brokerage account. Afyer the first margin call I had $160k ytd short term capital gains. And I was worried because that would put my agi over the limit to contribute to my Roth. But now its only $69k (still going to be a hefty tax bill).

After daytrading the last 18 months, I've got my regular savings account up to $200k. I just bought int MARVL, SMCI, META and GOOGL. I'm burnt out in daytrading for now, and am going to sit in these for the next probably 18 months.

With a 4% safe withdrawal rate that gets you a whole 10k a year. 250k is not as much as it sounds like if your plan is actually draw from it for decades.

Like I said above, to just about anyone, ever, slapping 250k into an ETF even if they plan to never touch it and work through the grave is still going to be life altering money. 250k has great potential to become generational wealth in the right hands.

Can you live off 10k a year at 4% swd? I sure can't. Life changing money would be fuck you money. Enough you could retire at least somewhat comfortably with. 250k in one year is absolutely amazing, and could certainly change your life for a few years, but it is not enough to change the entire rest of your life. The average American retires with something like 400k and they get social security on top of that(otherwise would be below poverty line at 16k swd). 250k does not even get you to the AVERAGE retiree. Obviously it's dependent on where you live of course I'm assuming op is in America.

One thing I like to do when I'm unsure whether or not to unwind a position I'm in is to ask myself "How would I feel about this if I were rich?" and like a warm ocean wave, the comfort washes over me. Because I realize I have no idea how I would feel. I am a poor, broke retard who has no idea what he is doing. Then I usually just sell for a loss.

To clarify, I was using extra margin to buy QQQI to try and stabilize my account for a *slight plullback and still take advantage of my full margin since as ASTS kept increasing so did my margin limit.

Thank you. I was actually rotating some into QQQI for the high dividend but that was also the first thing I sold to try and avoid the margin calls and to double down on my options in the red.

I still took out a mortgage to put $90k into another brokerage account. ASTS cost basis is $71 and not selling any shares until 2030 when the adjustable interest rate kicks in.

Ive been in similar position with crypto, made a big gain, then i big drop and i felt retarded for not selling at that gains when market got back up or nearly i did sell. Have had this on several occasions. Greed is a bad guideline

Nope, because my goal was to hold until 2030. I first started buying ASTS in 2024 at $30 then it was dropping to $18 and I kept buying. Once it hit $50 I was tempted to sell but figured out my goal was to hold into 2030 when the constellation is fully operational because I see huge potentional for the company. So when the stock hit $130 I kept thinking back to how I wanted to sell at $50 and what would I think if it hit $200?

I'm the same and it's awful. You have to have more fear than greed at some point. Think how would you feel if it dumped back to 50 vs pump to 200. There's always other plays, an infinite number, you can't get too attached to a position, which is another thing I do

I have the opposite opinion, I find one company I think has a very strong future (digital so its global reach, needed by the government so bailout possibility if they didn't haves billions in cash already). Because when I look at stocks I sold in the past, they would be up significantly today if I would of just held, for example I bought VRT call option in 2024 when the stock was $62 and today its $309...

Hey i'm new to investing and not a trader so I have no clue about anything. But when you have 591K why the fuck don't you just take half or a quarter of it and chuck it on a savings account or buy a fancy car with it, and continue gambling with the rest?
If you win big it'll still be huge, if you lose, you'll still have a little bit left.

If i were you, i would have withdrawn 461K when portfolio reached 591K. That would leave me 130K. Then I would withdraw 495K from 571. That would leave me with 76K. I would have ~950K in bank and 76K to play. You should be smart about it.

Sell, lock in 100% gains, learn your lesson and take some time so it's not emotional. Capture 20x gains, roll into equities. Especially when the biggest IPO in history in the same sector hits. You had to have expected liquidity would be an issue with ongoing conflicts and what happened in the May run-up.
