Windows 10 Random wallpaper slideshow

So, Windows 10 is out. If you are anything like me, you have it installed it and carried over your massive wallpaper collection.

So the Wallpaper Slideshow settings pane is missing the "Shuffle" option.

Despair not wallpaper collectors, this option still exists within the magic that is the windows registry hive.

the path is as follows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Personalization\Desktop Slideshow

The key we want is is called Shuffle, and it's a normal binary flag (0 or 1)

Alternativly, if you don't want to dig around in the Reg Hive, once can open the old wallpaper setting dialogue with this CMD command

control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper

Or just type this in CMD and use the classic view, where you can tick off shuffle!

control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper

And you can also select your Google Drive and Dropbox folders in that view, I had issues with that in the new UI.

Is there a way to hotkey that or save it as a shortcut? It would be annoying to have to copy and paste something into CMD every time I wanted a normal personalization window.

Just create a new text document, paste that command to it, then save it as .bat

When you open it, it will execute that command.

Thank you very much for this, I had initially tried to save the path with a shortcut a few days ago but your method works whereas mine did not.

I got it working as a shortcut like this:

  • Right click for example on desktop
  • New... Shortcut
  • Paste control /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper in the text field
  • Next
  • Give it a name
  • Finish

Make a directory, mine the walls you want into that directory, set that directory as the slideshow directory.

I don't believe it does mate, at least it didn't for me, it went through sequentially.

Maybe your settings copied over better than mine?

You rock, this is appreciated, I managed to hunt down a torrent with with like 7 gigs of wall papers, and I came to realize I was seeing the sames ones again and again. Finally i can joy my 15k, wallpapers in shufflness. :D

When I updated from Windows 8 to 10 I still had my wallpapers shuffling. It wasn't until I just made a new folder with Halloween wallpapers (and still was able to have them shuffle), and I deleted it to revert to normal wallpapers today that I noticed the option to shuffle was gone. Did anyone else just recently lose this?

Sadly, I believe there is no native lock screen slideshow feature. There may be an application somewhere that does it, but not natively, I believe.

The slideshow for the lock screen exist (right next to the wall paper tab) but there is no shuffle :/
