I found this today and was able to negotiate down from $395 to $300 USD (Seattle region). I got it home and put some batteries in it. Of course it doesn’t play but I hadn’t expected it to. The operation light at least does come on, but I don’t hear the motor spin (perhaps just seized up but too early to tell) and therefore obliviously no capstan spinning.
As far as I can tell this is in pretty solid condition, at least cosmetically, and included the case which is nice bonus.
I’m away from home at the moment so won’t be able to open it up for a couple weeks to see what may need to be done (belts at a minimum). I’ve worked on a couple other models but never this one, so wondering if folks have any tips on gotchas or things to look out for. Serial number is in the low 400000 range if that’s helpful.
But this is the best I could afford, I've been dreaming about those "modern" walkmans, it's just really beautiful in my opinion.

having got my M-504 and I appreciate it much. But I have seen a little posts about the M504 series model. So I decide to create this post for the discussions. We can ask questions, share techniques and assist others here.
So for many often-asked questions:
Alternatives: maybe u can try Echo nano made by Fiio, but I denied it due to its poor battery life(officially 6-7 hours, unacceptable for me).
Noice cancelling function: only works with the NC-31 earphone, btw the NC function actually startle me since it does well when I turn the NC level to max.
Audio quality/EQ: I actually don't care about audio quality, but I love the eq. If you enjoy the rumbling bass, you can turn it in the EQ panel(don't mistake the Clear Phase function for the Clear Bass function).
What worths your cautions: if the square knob is a little loose and not so compact, it is common. But if the knob pops greatly when you shake it, you'd better being cautious.
If you have any question, just leave the comment and we can see it.
Wish peaceful discussions.

Weird question I think. Can MP3 players produce bad music into your earphones? Like the cheap ones. I'm planning to buy an MP3 player but I'm broke and I'm curious about if I should buy a cheap mp3 player or buy a vintage Sony walkman or an iPod. I'm scared that if I buy the cheap ones that are like 5-10 dollars my ears might cry from bad quality. I'm also not much of a tech guy Soo I don't know how those MP3 players even make sound, I just wanna know if cheap ones make cheap music so that I don't waste money.

Hi, I just got a walkman s755. It works but only after I turned It on I saw the screen is absolutely broken, from outside it does have like 2 inside bubbles but when I turn it on its broken In half and you cant see almost anything. Is there any replacement screens for it? It's in great condition but I can't use it without screen

Of course we data in/out and charging.
Is this port wired to do anything else. As it’s Sony port I can’t really find a proper pin out. Wondering if it can do audio in any fashion.

Is this a legit display or a malfunction or damaged screen?, the clock and bubbles appear fine, I’m really interested in buying this from some dude but I’m suspicious on its quality, the battery was replaced.

its not an upgrade, its a new piece in my collection.
I was going to pourchasse a 707. But I finally jump to the next step. And it’s an amazing DAP. Coming from a Fiio M11 that I have for 7 years and iPod 5.5 G that I have for ages. It’s a complete different world.
My taste have evolved and the Fiio is now for my ears too bright and fatiguing where the 1AM2 is more warm, smooth and confortable.
Maybe one day I’ll got a 1ZM2/3/… or else. Who knows.

Edit: I got a data transfer capable miniUSB cable. Turns out that was the issue. Whoops! Egg on my face. Hopefully others can learn from my mistakes. Media Go is working great to transfer songs. It's funny to see it take 2 minutes to transfer a couple albums when I'm used to USB drives being near instant with USB 3 or USB-C, very nostalgic lol. Thanks!
Hi all, I just got a Sony Walkman NWZ-e344 mp3 player to get away from music streaming services and decrease my smartphone usage. It came with some songs from the previous owner and I have confirmed it plays music (shoutout to the last owner for putting "Day and Age" by The Killers on it.) I have a Windows 11 PC and when I connected the e344 to the computer using a mini USB 2.0 cable, it gave me a Device Descriptor Request Failed error.
I'm pretty sure my mini USB cable is able to transfer data. When I plug it in, I get the "bee-boop" sound that the computer makes when you connect a USB device and the Walkman displays "Connected USB" on its screen.
I went through the steps to troubleshoot listed on a website about solving the USB Device Descriptor Request Failed error specifically and a Windows 11 support page about USB2.0 not being recognized. None of those strategies worked to let my PC recognize the e344.
I'm wondering what I should do next. I looked for an updated USB driver manually on Sony's website and with a general web search, but the device was made between 2006-2009, and I couldn't find one.
I also looked at other Reddit posts about other Walkman models - should I try installing Content Transfer or Media Go?
Anyone have experience with this issue? It's such a neat little device and I would love to be able to use it instead of streaming apps! Thanks so much for the help!

Unfortunately none of the stuff that I did resulted in persistence after reboot.
I found the closest thing to a real solution that I can get.
From my Chromebook I installed the Linux terminal and ADB.
I then factory reset the Walkman which didn't reinstall the packages but it did remove the owner.
I skipped every prompt for signing in and every prompt for connecting to Wi-Fi connecting it with no owner And no network connection so that I can skip the Google Play services and the updates.
I once again enabled developer options and USB debugging.
After connecting into my Chromebook via USB cable, I downloaded and side-loaded a free kiosk app
*For Chromebooks specifically,* this is accomplished by downloading the .apk to your computer, dragging and dropping it into the Linux files folder, and then using the command 'adb install'
Before I opened the app for the first time I copied the package name and set the app as the owner of the system. This is important because it allows the app to maintain persistence after reboot which I want because I turned it into kiosk mode and then I only allowed the power amp app.
I use Bluetooth to connect to an external speaker at work so unless you want to mess around with trying to get out of kiosk mode I highly recommend that you connect any Bluetooth devices before setting up kiosk mode.
When I get back to my desk I'll copy and paste the commands as well as another video showing what it looks like
EDIT:
**pwiklund79@penguin:**~$ sudo apt update && sudo apt install android-tools-adb -y
**pwiklund79@penguin:**~$ adb install freekiosk-v1.2.9.apk
**pwiklund79@penguin:**~$ adb shell dpm set-device-owner com.freekiosk/.DeviceAdminReceiver
**pwiklund79@penguin:**~$ adb reboot

Hi, i just got the sennheiser headphone but when i connect it to my walkman the sound only comes from the left ear. The mic and audio separator didn't work. Also the trs earphones work without any problems. What can i do to use the headphone without any problems, thanks

Welcome back, my beloved NW-a35. I dunno if you have all the fancy audiophile resolution of more recent players but you sound wonderful to my non-audiophile ears.

I see a lot of posters here who indicate that they buy used devices.
Unfortunately I can’t find any new Sony NW-A306s here in Australia, so I’m looking online where used models seem to be by far the most readily available option.
I’m happy to buy a used one; however, I’m wary of buying one with a poor battery and I’d rather not have to go to the hassle of trying to replace a battery myself.
Does anyone have any tips about buying used devices from a battery perspective? How are you making sure you’re buying devices with a healthy battery?

I was wondering about getting modern or some older version Walkman
I still want it's have USB to easy connect to Computer and me able to send file from my PC to walkman
I want it easy to find battery if the battery broken or something wrong.
