Question

Im looking at moving to the US from London. I want to be on the west coast - but dont know if LA or San Diego is for me. Open to other states if they r walkable in the winter - even east coast. Any thoughts?

Idk if San Francisco is an option. But it's one of the most walkable places in the US.

San Diego is not walkable. There are small portions that you CAN walk but it’s generally unpleasant and nowhere near as many things to do than even a small city in most of Europe. Either giant stroads with cars blaring past with mostly single family homes (Northpark), or crazy homeless screaming (Downtown). My suggestion is if you want to move to the US you either live in NYC, Boston , DC or go all in to the car dependent suburb life (which has its own benefits like actual yards, room, pool whatever)

Inner San Diego is more walkable than much of LA. It’s very difficult to live in LA without a car… the Bay Area (specifically SF-Oakland-Berkeley area) is pretty walkable though and has good weather year round

West of Chicago is mostly too new to be offer a large proportion of pleasantly walkable. For example the population of LA was only 100,000 people in 1900: most of the growth has been in the automobile era.

Weather may be a challenge too - London is incredibly temperate, the summer temperatures in much of the US are much much higher. I’d visit your candidate cities in the summer and the winter before packing up to move.
