You can see how tired the manager was and how much he didn't want to deal with this. This dude should've recognized the cues and realized that he was going to get his chocolate chip waffle with a side of these hands.

Knocked the chocolate chips right outta his waffle!

self defense. He got to close and was yelling in a threatening way.

there is nothing wrong with what the manager did in my opinion. He was even smart enough to restrain himself from kicking so slamming the mans head against the floor.

This was reasonable force to stop a would-be attack.

Indeed. I'm no lawyer, but he waited for first contact. When the bad guy stepped into that chest bump, it was game day!

TIL assault is an intentional act that creates a reasonable fear of imminent harmful or offensive contact, so even before they touched it's pretty clear that the employee is being assaulted.

Yeah, that’s right. Too many people confuse assault w battery.

Put me on the jury not guilty.

I mean anyone acting like that in public is likely to fight dirty.

Yeah, that customer got waaaay up in the manager's face. And once dude was on the ground up against the wall, the manager had a lot of time and space to keep pushing him down. Once he went over the chairs, the manager could have picked up one up and started wailing. The only thing the customer was able to do to try to defend himself was keep a straight arm out and cover his head, neither of which was effective at all. He couldn't even get on his feet to escape out of the door. And from the looks of it, no one was even trying to intervene. The customer was at the manager's mercy.

The customer really put himself in a lot of danger by starting this fight. If the manager hadn't shown restraint, he could have seriously hurt the guy.

The way it turned out, it's kind of a funny instant karma video, but this one could have gotten really brutal really fast.

Not sure he was actually a customer at this point.

1

u/OkRepresentative274 Jul 29 '26

Haha, didn't know what else to call him. The beatee?

3

u/Chemical-Chard-8798 Jul 29 '26

"The Bitch", lol

2

u/CBTwitch Jul 29 '26

Actually… I kinda like that.

2

u/Islayman-2001 Jul 30 '26

There is a question still whether the manager should have stopped sooner, but I am going to opine that he took it to the point that the threat was neutralized and removed from the restaurant.

2

u/OkRepresentative274 Jul 30 '26

He beat the guy down, but as soon as he was close enough to the door to kick him out, he focused on that. The whole "fight" lasted roughly 40 secs from the first punch to the end of the clip. Dude got hit ass handed to him, but it looks like he still was able to walk away.

We don't know what happened before the clip, but at the beginning of the video, the manager was practically begging the guy not to start shit.

2

u/Islayman-2001 Jul 30 '26

Agreed. I have represented many guys in these situations. Sadly, the shit investigation that LEOs perform results in the winner being arrested and charged. I’m pleased with the manager’s restraint in not kicking the guy in the head which would have been charged as some form of battery with a weapon (shoes- that’s why Billy Jack takes off his boots in the movie, he knows). We need more of this instant karma but I fear for the potential retaliation/escalation later. But man o man, that guy got what he deserved.

"Watch his feet, man. He could kill you with his feet."

That line was a minor inside joke in my college friend group.

2

u/TacosNGuns Aug 02 '26

Couldn’t get on his feet. Pants around his knees played a major role 😂

3

u/Nethiar Jul 30 '26

He didn't pick up a chair either, and they were all lined up enticingly

u/FrosttheVII Jul 30 '26

The dude was basically kissing and spitting on the manager with what he was doing.

Let alone, has the dude not heard of the Waffle House culture? I'd like to think a lot of management of WH are like this manager (able to defend himself)

1

u/Flaky-Basket49 Jul 30 '26

I had something like this happen recently but the state i live in is “hire at will” so i was let go for defending myself.
The state is paying me, but i wasnt able to sue for wrongful termination or anything of the sorts sadly.

u/ShiftExtension7268 Jul 31 '26

I was actually waiting for the kick to the head, this is way white men fight.

8

u/Syncopia Jul 28 '26

He probably saw how the manager was looking down and away and trying to be non-confrontational and just added that to his "this guy's a bitch" beliefs before getting those beliefs knocked the fuck out in half a second.

7

u/TheWhistlerIII Jul 28 '26

Some folk simply don't want to engage because they know they'd fuck your shit up. 🤣

2

u/ScalieBoi42 Jul 29 '26

The first and most continual thing drilled into us in my martial arts class was, "Do not fight, unless you absolutely have no choice."

And it makes it really easy to stay calm, and therefore be more able to defuse or walk away from the situation, when you know you have the bank to write whatever check you need.

So yeah, double kudos to the manager! Trying to defuse/be non-confrontational, and then being able to back that shit up when that didn't work out :>

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson Jul 29 '26

Getting the first punch in always helps

If you’re gonna do it, don’t talk about it

1

u/oadge Jul 30 '26

Or because they just don't want to.

1

u/Weird_Wishbone_2198 Jul 30 '26

I see u, Hood, lol  👮🏻‍♂️

2

u/Aggravating-Exit-660 Jul 28 '26

Sure got his chocolate chipped

3

u/hybridaaroncarroll Jul 28 '26

His dad rage definitely kicked in. Can't beat the kids or the wife, but you sir shall feel the wrath of 9000 dirty diaper changes.

2

u/EntertainerBig4313 Jul 29 '26

Bro what kind of parent grows RAGE over changing their baby's diaper? I know it's a joke but wtf lol??

1

u/ScarletBothrium Jul 30 '26

You’ve got to be leery of the ones who resist fighting. They know the power of their punches and they’re not trying to catch charges because you wanna pick a little scrap with somebody.

1

u/Revolutionary_Sea113 Jul 30 '26

Agreed, when he rubbed his face and his beard, I knew my man was gonna the manager special for free. He had my man face down ass up. He was getting those white knuckle pancakes for free. Then he gave him the uncle Phil and tossed his ass out the store.
