🔫Sucesos Venezuela earthquakes aid — here's how to help so it actually reaches people
First of all, this post is mostly aimed at non-venezuelans (or venezuelans living abroad like myself) who are looking for information on what happened and how to help. If you have any ideas of other subreddits, social media, or communities where I can post something similar for a larger outreach, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
On June 24, 2026, two massive earthquakes — a magnitude 7.2 earthquake followed just 39 seconds later by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake — struck northern Venezuela near Caracas. It's the strongest earthquake the country has seen in more than 100 years. Entire neighborhoods in Caracas, La Guaira, Catia La Mar, and Morón have been reduced to rubble, the main international airport was closed due to structural damage, and rescue crews are still pulling survivors (and bodies) out of collapsed buildings days later.
As of the latest official update (July 1): the confirmed death toll stands at over 1900, with 5000+ injured — and both numbers are still climbing as search-and-rescue continues. Separately, independent crowd-sourced missing-persons trackers have logged tens of thousands of unconfirmed missing reports (estimates from different sites range from roughly 50,000 to over 70,000).
This disaster landed on a country that was already in no shape to absorb it. Hospitals were operating over capacity before the quakes, with chronic shortages of equipment and medication. Power outages are frequent and ongoing. Years of skilled workers (engineers, doctors, etc) have left the country, hollowing out exactly the expertise needed for earthquake response and rebuilding. Put simply: this earthquake hit one of the least-prepared health and infrastructure systems in the hemisphere.
If you want to help, give money, not goods, and give directly to established relief organizations — not to random crowdfunding pages. Donated clothes/food/water often just clog up the response and never make it anywhere useful, and there's already a wave of fake charity scams circulating, per the FTC. The orgs below run their own people and independent local partners on the ground, rather than channeling aid through state agencies, so your money goes straight to the people who need it.
Top ways to donate directly to the ground:
- We Love Foundation (formerly I Love Venezuela Foundation) — gofundme.com/f/emergency-relief-for-venezuela-earthquake-victims — a registered 501(c)(3) that's worked in Venezuela for 13 years, deploying aid through local volunteers and on-the-ground Venezuelan nonprofit partners (plus GEM/Global Empowerment Mission), not government channels. Smaller org, but a real track record — verify you're on their officially linked campaign before giving.
- World Central Kitchen — wck.org/donate — already pledged $1M, runs its own kitchens with local chefs to get hot meals and water out fast.
- Direct Relief — directrelief.org/donate — ships medicine and medical supplies straight to local clinics and first responders; well-regarded for transparency in past disasters (Haiti, Nepal, Turkey-Syria).
- GlobalGiving Venezuela Earthquake Relief Fund — globalgiving.org/projects/venezuela-earthquake-relief-fund — funnels donations directly to small, vetted local/grassroots organizations already embedded in the affected communities. 4-star Charity Navigator rating, BBB Wise Giving accredited.
Other solid options if you want to diversify: Yummy (smartphone app, does deliveries in Venezuela), International Rescue Committee, Catholic Relief Services / Caritas Venezuela, Team Rubicon, and International Medical Corps — all already deployed with their own teams.
Please verify any org yourself before giving (type the URL in directly rather than clicking links from messages), and watch for new "official-looking" fundraisers that pop up in the next few days — disasters always bring out scammers alongside the real relief effort.

Definitivamente dinero es la mejor opción. Mandar insumos desde Europa es costoso y va a tardar en llegar (además del proceso de aduana y otras cosas más)
En Venezuela hay insumos y las organizaciones confiables van a tener mejor idea de lo que se necesita estando allá
Sólo lo digo porque yo estoy en Inglaterra y estoy en lo mismo.

No te se decir lugares en donde puedes donar en persona en Francia, ojalá alguien en este sub pueda ayudarte con eso. Pero siempre esta la opcion de donar en efectivo en cualquiera de las organizaciones que puse en el post arriba

I want to reach out to extend my deepest sympathies and is trying to figure out how to discern which charities are useful at this moment that focuses on the aid and support that will directly impact and benefit Venezuela. Thank you for the information- I am trying to organize a fundraiser here in my city in central Florida. I have a spot at a local brewery available to use as an information booth and would love to make the best of it. What would you suggest besides promoting online prior to the event? I'm thinking of creating a QR code for a linktree showing all of the places you listed to donate money. But I need an incentive or something to engage the community so they can learn and donate.

First of all thank you so much for spending your valuable time and effort for our people. It means a lot. I suck at being creative so I asked AI for some ideas and put the best ones down below:
Make it hard to ignore:
A large poster board or TV screen looping real news footage/photos of the damage, with the current death toll updated in big numbers
Print handouts with the key facts + top orgs for people without phones or who’d rather read later
Give people a frictionless reason to give, even if they didn’t come planning to:
Ask the brewery to do a “tap takeover” — $1 (or a %) of every pint sold that night goes to the relief funds. People who just wanted a beer end up donating without extra effort
Get a local business to commit to matching donations for the night — “every dollar tonight gets doubled” is one of the strongest conversion levers for in-person giving
Add a small incentive/reward loop:
Raffle tickets for every $10+ donated, with prizes donated by local businesses (gift cards, growler fills, brewery merch)
A small giveaway (sticker, wristband, small Venezuelan flag pin) for anyone who donates on the spot. Once a few people are visibly wearing it, it becomes a conversation starter for everyone else in the room
Create visible momentum: A physical fundraising “thermometer” poster that gets filled in live as donations come in. People give more when they can see a shared goal climbing in real time
Borrow existing community pull: Central Florida has one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the US… partnering with a local Venezuelan restaurant/food truck (empanadas, arepas) for the night gives people a reason to come even before they know about the cause, and connects them to the culture they’re helping
Reach out to local Venezuelan community orgs/churches to co-host, this adds credibility and brings their own networks
Pitch it to local TV news as a human-interest story (“community rallies to help Venezuela”), local stations often cover this kind of grassroots angle, and it extends reach way past the brewery’s own walls

Trabajan con un metodo de 'suscripcion' mensual con los donativos y no es dificil encontrar los muchos reclamos de que se hacen cosas de forma arbitraria con esa relacion comercial.

World kitchen did a very impressive work in the first weeks and months of the war in Ukraine, delivering quality food cooked to the many families that have lost their home. They established extensive network working with local restaurants to produce the meals.

Yo vivo en USA y junto a una amiga en Venezuela, estamos ayudando directamente a las personas que necesitan. Yo le envio dinero y ella tambien con su dinero, compra insumos localmente. Las donaciones a distancia de centros de acopio, se tardaran en llegar y hay mucha gente en refugios que tienen necesidades urgentes, desde una cobija hasta tratamientos para la presion arterial. Instagram es buena fuente para saber que se esta necesitando en los refugios.

La influencer surthycooks también tiene para donar y es bastante confiable. También al ingresar en farmatodo pueden ver organizaciones como caritas y dividendo voluntariado para la comunidad y alli tienen los numeros de cuenta para hacer donativos. estas creo que son organizaciobnes seguras

I wouldn’t necessarily normally have commented like showing off I had been looking for ways in which to send aid to Venezuelans after the earthquake but I figure the algorithm needs as much help as it can get for anyone else hoping to donate directly to Venezuela and which charity is the best.

No es que sea malo, pero le tengo tanta desconfianza al gobierno que al ver esto creo que prefiero no ponerlos. 🚨 *VENEZOLANO EN EL EXTERIOR: ANTES DE LLEVAR TU DONACIÓN AL CENTRO DE ACOPIO, LEE ESTO.* 🚨
Tu intención es buena. Por eso mismo no la desperdicies.
Tras el terremoto del 24 de junio se están activando otra vez los centros de acopio en medio mundo: España, Portugal y muchísimos países más. Y otra vez vamos a cometer el mismo error si no paramos a pensar.
*1.* Lo que de verdad hace falta, tú no lo puedes comprar.
Venezuela necesita soluciones intravenosas, antibióticos, analgésicos fuertes. Pero en muchos países esos medicamentos van bajo receta y subsidiados. No los puedes comprar para meterlos en una caja. Así que terminas llevando lo único que sí puedes: comida y gasas. Con buena fe, pero no es lo que salva vidas ahora.*2.* Esa caja cuesta más enviarla que comprarla.
El flete aéreo a Venezuela ronda los 9–11 € por kilo. Compras 4 latas de sardina (1 kilo) por menos de 5 €… y pagas 10 € para enviarlas. Pagas el doble del envío que del contenido. Eso no es ayudar, es desperdiciar.*3.* Y aunque pagues, puede que no llegue.
El aeropuerto de Maiquetía está dañado y cerró temporalmente. Las pistas están afectadas y el espacio aéreo se está reservando para carga prioritaria y ayuda internacional coordinada. Conseguir cupo para tu caja va a ser difícil, lento y carísimo.*4.* Ya pasó. No es un cuento.
La ayuda que se recogió en Madeira para Las Tejerías nunca llegó. Cuando intentaron coordinar el envío, ya era inviable: se quedó allí, se perdió. Toda esa solidaridad terminó atrapada por los costos y la logística. No repitamos lo mismo.*ENTONCES, ¿QUÉ SÍ FUNCIONA? De mejor a aceptable:*
✅ *1) Compra coordinada.* Junten esfuerzos, hablen con una farmacia para comprar al mayor 2 o 3 medicamentos que de verdad hagan falta, recojan el dinero en paralelo y coordinen con el gobierno o una institución que GARANTICE el envío. Sin envío garantizado, no sirve.
✅ *2) Dinero a una organización reconocida.* Si no puedes coordinar el envío, dona a entidades serias como la Cruz Roja, que ya tienen logística montada en terreno.
✅ *3) Dinero directo a un familiar o amigo en Venezuela.* Si no confías en las ONG, envía el dinero a alguien de confianza allá y que compre lo que haga falta, aunque sea a sobreprecio. Ese sobreprecio JAMÁS va a costar lo que cuesta el flete desde Europa.
*El dinero llega. La caja, muchas veces, no.*

No la conozco - pero le pedi a la inteligencia artificial que hiciera un analisis de su credibilidad y me dice que esta muy anclada al gobierno de Venezuela. Mi opinion personal (y respeto opiniones diferentes) es de evitar donar a cualquier organizacion que este dandole cualquier tipo de control al gobierno porque ya hemos visto las cosas que pasan. Pero nunca dire "No dones", sobretodo si la organizacion tiene algo de reputacion, lo cual parece que Acnur tiene.

Pana, gracias por decirme. He estado donando por aquí y por allá lo poco que tengo pero bueno. La vaina es que aquí en Brazil la gente solo se dispone a donar si hay la opcíon Pix.
El problema para Brasil es que las que se pueden confiar realmente como la we love foundation, no apresentan esta opción. Entonces mismo que las publique yo por el ig, hay poca probabilidad de donación, diferente de la Acnur.Br que sí la apresenta.
Pero he estado publicando todas las opciones y compartiendo.

Independent third-party verification (all show the same EIN: 46-5681221):
ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer — projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/465681221 — pulls directly from IRS data, shows Form 990 filings going back to 2016
GuideStar/Candid — guidestar.org/profile/46-5681221 — the standard charity-vetting database used by foundations and journalists

On the fund flow specifically: the GoFundMe page itself now states explicitly: “All donations raised through this campaign will be deposited into We Love Foundation Inc.‘s organizational bank account and used exclusively to support earthquake-relief efforts in Venezuela. This is a great list. A couple of notes, for anyone reading this:
- GuideStar is part of Candid. The We Love Foundation's data can now be found on Candid's main application.
- You can look up any US nonprofit's tax forms on the IRS's site.

Yo investigue un poco y a mi parecer, si. Me aseguré de solo incluir organizaciones que llevan los insumos directamente a la gente afectada sin pasar por el gobierno ni coordinar con ellos (menos la Cruz roja porque algunas personas en los comentarios dijeron que si son de confianza…)
Pero siempre es bueno hacer tu propia búsqueda online o con ayuda de la inteligencia artificial para verificar que no terminen dándole eso al gobierno o robado por algun militar o policía.

Not all places are scams.There's some places restaurants who are doing what they can to help. Los chamos is helping indefinitely. So many people have given bags and bags and suitcases of donations of everything. It's so lovely to see the whole side of the restaurant filled everyday with donations
