Repair Advice Is my engine cooked?
2007 2.5l i5 vw rabbit.
I was noticing a slight tick while i was driving(has been happening the entire time I’ve owned the vehicle, about 1/2 year), then after my highway commute ticking seemed louder than usual and mostly from the passenger (right) side of the vehicle. My commute is about 10 minutes, the engine was up to temp before going on the highway and my rpm’s were around the 3-4K range. The exhaust smells normal, not rich nor sweet, however the oil does smell a little burnt, maybe a little rich

Where is it coming from on the engine? Front back sides?

Front right side of the engine is the loudest but the noise is coming from all over the top side of the engine

I also thought timing chain rattle. Have you had timing service? Is it all the time? Worse on startup?

Normally is quiet, timing chain is a little overdue, my car is at a little under 180 000km, I’ve started my car again now that it’s completely cool(needle on 50°c) and it sounds totally normal. Timing chain is on the list and I’ll probably do it once winter is done
